Hard work and determination prevailed throughout the pre-season drills. Enthusiasm was at a high pitch when the squad opened the season with Hohenwald. The Mustangs took a surprising early lead 8-0 but lost the game 8-27. Travelling to powerful, highly ranked Elkmont, Alabama the Mustangs were whalloped 6-23. Victory was not to come for the hard-fighting Mustang squad until they journeyed to Waynesboro. Victory by a 14-7 score was surely sweet There was to be no more victories but plenty of action. Homecoming saw the Mustangs come close to a major upset of powerful B.G.A. The team was to give excellent performances with Lewisburg and Chapel Hill who were State Playoff contenders. They played what seemed like an endless four quarters in a 33-13 losing effort. In their next outing they made a much better impression, but still lost to Anderson, Alabama 42-38. The Mustangs then celebrated their first win by beating Summertown 44-39. The celebration was short-lived though due to the illness and resignation of our coach Allen Rogers. We then traveled to Rogersville with Coach Earnest only to go down in defeat after staying close for 3 quarters and finally running out of gas to lose by 12 points. Our first adventure with Coach Barnett was against Athens, Alabama in a Christmas Tournament at Anderson. This could possibly have been our best played game of the year as we stunned Athens 45-23. We went back the next night to play Anderson and captured the first place trophy by defeating them in a very physical, hard fought game 46-40. The Mustang squad then moved on to Summertown to take the win over the Eagles by a score of 46-42. After the victory over Summertown, the Mustangs smashed Lawrenceburg 57-43 at Lawrenceburg. The Freshman Mustangs ended their season in a heartstopping overtime victory defeating Anderson 31-30. This victory gave them a respectable 6-3 record for their short season. 114 Soy's Basketball in Mustang and excitement. This year wa n ex pi with only one Senior, worked very hardW Allen Rogers. At Times It Seemed A Hopeless Cause But It All Worked Out With The Help Of Our Very Good Advisor, Mr. Alision. My Special Thanks To Pam Bailey For Her Tremendous Help And Support. She Took Care Of Her Responsibilities And Helped Wherever She Was Needed. It Was Because Of People Like Her And Everyone Else That This Years Book Went Together So Nicely. Our Theme Was There Is A Time For Everything. The Time Spent Working On This Yearbook Has Been Very Pleasant. The Memories Of This Year Will Be With Me For A Lona Time To Come. It Was My Pleasure.
