Dedicated to Our Hol Father, Pope Pius The builders vowed at canyon's rim, To bridge the torrent, deep and grim, Of strongest oak they wrought their plan- But soon a fire consumed the span. Their next attempt-an arch of stone By earthquake heave was overthrown. Then one of steel, conceived to last, Dissolved within an atom blast. While hearts were heavy with despair A Voice gave answer to their prayer: To bridge the gap from man to man Of Human Kindness build the span. The link thus wrought of priceless parts- Of love divine in Human Hearts-- l-las strength no evil force can sever: The Bridge of Kindness lasts forever. --D. B.
