It was the first day of school in September of 1941. The children were all standing around puzzled and frightened but the teacher Mrs. Spitler soon had everything under control. Enrolled this first year were: Kenny Harshman, ,Paul Loudon,B1ll McNaughton, Ralph Johnson, Joe Quimby, Robert Kennedy, Ray Best, Ruth Burke, Jessie Beale, Freddie Oaks, Bud Harrison, Leroy Sheldon Tommy Murray, Ethel Nedrow, Mary Jo Johnson, Donna Kennedy, Helen Oller, Dorothy Giovannone, and Glen Corry. Grade Two--This year we were altogether different, not the same frightened children of last year. We were beginning to think we knew something about school, even though our teacher, Mrs, Hicks had a different idea. This year we had one entry, Yvonne Cheeks, while Jessie Beale, Ruth Burke, and Kenny Harshman left us. Grade Three--We could just barely wait for school to start because we knew there were new readers, With interesting stories and plays waiting for us. Mrs. Hanny taught us to tell time and we felt we had gained much knowledge. Shirley Lytle, Janet Prust, and Grace Hall joined our happy class, and Ralph Johnson, Robert Kennedy, Donna Kennedy, and Helen Oller left the class. Grade Four--Boy, but we were big kids now or at least thought so. We got report cards like the high school and were graded with letter grades instead of U's and S's. Mrs. Fenstermaker began to teach us the multiplication tables this year, and what a time she had. Janet Taylor, Sandy Smith, and Gordon West entered our class. Grade Five--This year our class was divided into two groups part of having Mrs. Fenstermaker and the rest under Mrs. Crouch. We con- tinued studing the multiplication tables. Delores Dinion, Hannah Perry, and Dolfus Parten entered our class, and Shirley Lytle, Janet Prust, and Freddie Oaks left us. Grade Six--This year was an exciting year because we were working toward Junior High school. We also looked forward to'the picnic which we attended on the last day of school. Leroy Sheldon, Sandy Smith, Ulen Cory, and Dolfus Parten left us. Grade Seven--We were very excited at the thought of being upstairs. Imagine the shock we recieved when we got last changing classes.I think it took about a week and an enumerable amount of lectures fron the teachers before we finally learned how to follow the schedule. Our teacher, Mrs. Aiken, helped us through our troulbe that year. Our enrollment was Bud Harrison, Yvonne Cheeks, Ethel Nedrow, Mary Ann Biggs, Hannah Perry, Ray Best, Grace Hall, Mary Jo Johnson, Joe Quimby, Janet Taylor, Gordon West, Dorothy Giovannone, Delores Binion, Paul Loudon, Kenny Bright, Jack Marlnkovlch, and Arlene Greedy. Joe Quimby left us. MGG-radeGGEight-f:'l3his year -wehwatched' the seventh grade make the same mistakes we once made. It seemed funny to us, although serious to them. Our teacher again this year was Mrs. Aikens. I think she must have liked us. Uiane Ahrendts, Judy Bailey, Carol Carter, and Earl Biggs entered the class period. Arlene Groody left us. When she came to me l looked up into a familiar face. lt was none other than one of my old class- mates Ethel Nedrow. Ethel likes her job very much and she told me she has been in lots of places that she always wanted to go to. When the plane got to New York, Ethel and I had made plans to go visit Lordstown and to try to get all the seniors together again when l got back from my trip. So saying good-hy l went on my way. I went to my hotel and registered, then decided to go shopping. As I walked into a store, someone came out in a hurry knocking me down. Sputtering mad, I jumped up to give this person a piece of my mind, when l recognized him as Bud Harrison, the only boy in our graduating class of 1953. Bud and I decided to go to lunch and talk over old times. Bud is now in the Army Air Force and looks very sharp in his uniform. Bud likes the Air Force very much and ls thinking about making it his career. 1 told Bud that Ethel and I had decided to get the class together and vlslt Lordstown and Bud agreed. l told him when and went on my way. l decided to go home the next day, stopping in Maryland for a while. I got to Maryland and decided to eat at Cozy Corners. I went in and sat down and just then l looked up to see another of my old classmates Janet Taylor, or rather Janet Biggs, and her husband Earl, and a small boy and girl. Janet and Earl came over and started talking. They were surprised to see me. Soon l found out that Janet and Earl had gotten married shortly after graduation and they now have two darling children. l told them also about the plans for us all to get together and they promised to come. After saying good-by l continued on my way. 1 was just leaving when I remembered Janet telling me that Mary Jo was now head nurse at the Cleveland Hospital. So l decided to go see her. When I got there, I was told that Mary Jo was on an important case, so 1 decided to wait. Soon I heard voices and l recognized one as Mary Jo. She came in looking very nice in her uniform. 1 went over and started talking to her ard she told me she had just had a call from Yvonne Cheeks, another of our classmates. It seems Yvonne had a cold and thought it was pneumonia so she called the hospital and asked someone to come out. Yvonne and Jackie are now married and have a 20 room house. I got the address from Mary Jo and went to see her. Her house is very nice and after telling me to take my shoes off so I wouldnlt get dirt on her white rug she invited me in. Her house is very lovely and they are very happy. I told Yvonne about the meeting of our old classmates and with the promise that she would vlslt me soon I returned home to wait for August when we would all meet. Yvonne planned to go and visit the other three of our classmates and invite them. lt was a pleasant surprise meeting Grace. She was the last person on earth I expected to see. She sure made my cold better. Some weeks have passed since 1 have seen Grace. I have decided to take her up on her invitation and visit her. So 1 went to Florida to visit Grace. 1 had her address so I set out to look her up. She lives out by the Everglades where she and Delano were married. They now own two of the most swanklest E53? 2Zwf 53355355 3323! fIi3V?JE'8e35 Ehieiileflliitniiftle gms you and IO P010 ec? Grace and 1 decided to go shopping the very next day. We went into a newly completed Style Center of Florida. We were admiring a new Paris fashion on a tall slim model. When she turned around, our eyes almost popped out, for the model was none other than one of our old classmates, Hannah Perry. Hannah has been modeling since she got out of school, and she really has quite a business now. She is in great demand. And no wonder, what a model! After talking to Hannah we found out that she had heard from Mary Ann who ls now switch board operator in Florida. So after tell- ing Hannah our plans to get together we decided to go see Mary Ann, as she was working in a nearby hotel. We started out to see her , and found Mary Ann as busy as a bee. She told me she had been work- ing in the hotel since schoql was out. We planned to go to Lordstown the next month, but the problem was we couldn't find Eileen. No one knew where she was. We got in touch with the other kids and planned to go to Lordstown. . The day finally came for us to leave for our trip. We had all planned to meet in Lordstown at 1:30 Saturday afternoon. That is all but Eileen, our missing senior. We got to Lordstown and were we sur- prised. Right across from the school there is a big hotel with a sign reading, nLouis Majick's Luxurious Hoteln. lt was none other than our dear superintendent whom we loved very much. We decided to go ln and what a surprise. We looked up to see Eileen coming toward us. Eileen is a switchboard operator in the Majick Hotel and likes her job very much. She ls now married, but she works as she has always wanted to be a switchboard operator. That evening we planned to eat together in the lovely dining room of the hotel. Dinner time came and we all went ln to slt down. When we got to our table we were really surprised for there sat our dear, sweet teachers. Mrs. Mlsconls made so much money she had to retire and take care of it. Mr. James ls now Dean of a large, college ln San Franslco and was off on a vacation. We all had a wonderful evening and later we went out to our old school. There is a movie theater next to the hotel, a shopping center, and even a stop light, in fact lots of them. And that ls what all the seniors of 1953 are doing now ln 1960. igpglalzecy W t S 1 a 5 1 2 A i I 1 1 i 1 1 1 1 . i Pet Grumbles of Class of'53 Hannah grumbles that it is so hard to get an 'An ln citizenship Yvonne grumbles that there ls so much to do and not enough time to do it ln.
