On May 23, we left for Washington, chaperoned by Mr. and Mrs. Graef and Mr. and Mrs. Betts. For four days we toured our capital and had fun together. Upon our return we planned our commencement. For twelve years we have worked toward this goal. Now as the time approaches our joy is mixed with sadness. We cannot show how much we appreciate all the kind things everyone had done for us. The sad part of our senior year is trying to say good- by to our class advisor, Mrs. Betts. She will always be an outstanding woman and we shall never forget the love and willingness that she has shown in these past short years. As we go our separate ways into this world, we know Mrs. Betts will always be willing to help us with various problems. Seventh grade Junror Hrgh School Mrs Koemg and Mrs Betts homeroom teachers We began our actrvrtres as one group George Rogers was elected presrdent Betty Jean Megee vtce presrdent Jane Wrlgus secretary and Fay Wrngate treasurer Our act1v1t1es rncluded a skatrng party a real hayrrde rn Mr Rrckard s truck, and a ptcnlc at Holt s Landrng followed by a theater party Durmg thxs year as a socral studtes pro ject we went to Phrladelphra to vlstt Independence Hall Wanamakers and the Franklln lnstrtute ln the etghth grade we had the same homeroom teachers Class offtcers were Betty Jean presrdent Harold Palmatary vrce prestdent Rachel Holt secretary and Peggy Betts treasurer Barbara Bradford Jomed our group Our prcmc was at Peggy s cottage at Marrdel Beach Thrrty three freshmen entered rn September 1953 Mrs Betts was now our only class advlsor W1th a wrll we set out to earn money Our class offtcers were Harold Palmatary presrdent Jackre Stephens vrce presrdent George Rogers secretary and Wendel West treasurer Our skatrng party was a huge success so many ttckets had been sold that Mr Wood and Mr Koenrg drove thetr cars to carry those who could not get on the two buses Our class had a few Monday nxght parttes so that all the boys could learn to dance before our btg sprrng dance The chxcken and dumpltng dtnner and bake were both ftnanclal SUCCCSSCS Durtng our sophomore year Bxlly Jager declded to stop school but Moms Berzrns became one of us Agatn we had a skatrng party beneftt movre dance and dmner Class offtcers were prestdent Ann Wrlgus vtce presrdent Valdra Megee treasurer Betty Jean Megee and secretary Marlorte Turner Class rtngs were ordered Jumors' Jack Stephens moved to New Jersey durrng the summer and Kathryn Melson was so 1ll that she attended school only two days Now there were only thrrty of us Our class rrngs were recerved For months we worked and planned for the Prom Offtcers were prestdent Wendel West vtce presrdent Rodney Justrce secretary Peggy Betts treasurer Barbara Bradford Judy Knox and Valdra Megee were our representatrves at Grrls State Roger Httchens and Ralph West were our representattves at Boys State In thrs our senror year Edward Smyth who came from England tncreased our number to thrrty one Our elected offrcers are presrdent Wendel West vrce presrdent Ralph West secretary Mar1or1e Turner treasurer Valdta Megee On September stxth and seventh the entrre class canvassed the area selltng ads for our yearbook The year book club wrth Mrs Jotnes as advisor has worked to publrsh an attractrve and successful Eagle s Nest for 1957 In October our presrdent Wendel West was awarded a trrp to Kansas as a member of the Nattonal Band.
