fz 7641 It has often been remarked that history has a pecular way of repeating 1ISe1f and so to a certain extent the history of this class ts much like the history of classes which have gone before and of others which will follow So remembering that to so many people history rs a rather dull subject except to those who have taken part tn rt personally the historians of the class of 1953 w1ll strive to be as brief as possible and to touch only upon those subjects which are of stgntficance not only to the class but to others For various reasons the members of the incoming class of September 1949 represented we be lieve a particularly promisrng group Early rn our freshman life, a class organization was formed and the following officers selected for class leadership Thus Hal Hudson became President Vernon McCabe Vtce President Bernice Long Secretary and Kenneth Turner Treasurer In POIDI of scholastic attarnments our class did not lag behind other classes Indeed we have lighted many beacons by the wayside the lights of which are bound to shtne afar Even though we were very youig at this stage of the game we were not without some responstbtlrty and social life ln this year we enjoyed a Valentine dance and a benefrt movie Th1S would appear to be almost enough but tt does not complete the telling of the story by any means Before we realized rt final examinations were being given and we received our passports in the form of report cards for the Sophomore Class At the beginning of our Sophomore year several members of the class did not come back Some stopped to go to work while others were lured away by outside interests Soon after school started we found ourselves occupying the Sophomore strongholds of the previous year Our class officers were Hal Hudson President Frank Munoz Vice President Joyce Murray Sec successful was our Chicken and Dumplmg Dinner We were made happy with the large number in attendance and w1th the many compliments which we recetved Wtth Mr Mitchell as our advisor rt had to be the best' Other actrvmes were the St Patrick s Dance and our benefrt movie We added two new members to our group in the persons of Shirley Card and Frank Munoz Frnally after several months of struggling through our classes we arrived at our next station Jumor Year ln September 1951 we returned feeling rather sad because we had lost our advisor whom we all loved Mr Vrrdon Mitchell Once agatn he heard the Call of Uncle Sam and rallied to it Early in the year we held a Class meeting under the direction of Mr Henry Harbage to elect the following class officers Hal Hudson President Gerald Layton Treasurer Donald Powell Vice President and Joyce Murray Secretary Durtng th1s year we had several movies two dances a bake and last but not least another Chicken Supper with Mrs Jornes acting as chairman ably assisted by our parents She proved to be a rather hard task master but we did our best w1th a smile little realizing that she would be our advisor next year As is always true the Jumor Prom was the highlight of this year On May the slxteenth tn a beautifully decorated gymnastum we danced to the heavenly music of George Madden s Orchestra The echoes of that dance are st1l1 ringing in our ears What a fine time we all did have' 0 I . . . . .
