Destruction! Complete and horrible yet strangely beautiful with a unique and awe- some beauty. This is the symbol of our age- the age of the atom. lt is a new age, not much older than most at us. We were babies together, both of us ushered into life about the time of Pearl Harbor. When you and I first faced the world in a schoolroom, the atom was making its first public appearance at Hiroshima. A few more weeks yet and we will enter the strange and complicated world of adults, We shall have to draw on untried re- sources and potentials if we are to make our ,li if 4 S 35? way in this world, but we will not be the only ones setting out anew. The atom too is en- tering a new phase of its existance, for with the hlp of the scientists we will embark on another Song iourney into the mysteries of life in our universe. Who can say what will came out of this new Geophysical Year, or what its findings wiil mean to us, as adults. There is no doubt that in the future, we too, will have cause to say Thank you to the teachers who have helped Us to study the past, keep up with the present, and plan tor the future.
