Superintendent A MESSAGE FROM MR. BUNN Greetings to the classes of 1938! I congratulate you upon the successful completion of your courses of study, You have earned the distinction of graduating from Lorain High School. I think that is a worthwhile achievement and you deserve the comf mendation of your parents, teachers and friends. Now that your school days are over, what are you going to do? There are thousf ands of young men and women graduates of our high schools and colleges this year who would like to he able to answer that question, Until recent years, young people just out of school could look forward with confidence to a successful career if they had the determination and the will to work. The opportunity to work and to succeed by individual initiative and effort has been a priceless heritage of American youth. You will not find so very many opportunities today and it will take real courage for you to face the discouragements and disappointments of the present. But do not lose hope! We all believe in the future of America. The same homely virtues of honesty, thrift, a sense of responsibility, the will to work, cooperation, unselfishness, and an abiding faith in God will overcome our present difficulties. PRESEN TIN G MR. LUTTRELL Like the wheelsman in the bow of a large vessel, upon whose foresight and sense of direction rests the responsibility for a safe and successful voyage, Principal C. J. W, Luttrell guides the ship of determined Lorain High School students through the ever' important years of learning. L'With the many extrafclass activities, the increase in the number of subjects offer' ed, and the improvement in the various courses taught in the public schools, pupils of today have a much better opportunity to obtain an education which will enable them to live happier and more useful lives, declared Mr. Luttrell. Mr. Luttrell graduated from Ohio State University in 1917 with B.A. and B.S. in Ed. degrees, and seven years later he was awarded a Degree of Master of Arts at Teachers College, Columbia University. Before coming to Lorain High School in 1935, he held various positions at Middletown High School, West Technical High School, Cleveland, Fulton County, Ohio, schools, and was then principal of Ashtabula, Ohio, High School for eleven years. In order to achieve success during your high school career, you must plan a wellf balanced time budget, devoting a certain amount of time to studies and a certain amount to extrafcurricular activities and recreation, he advised. Mr. Luttrell recommends to students the wide reading of good literature, especial' ly the extensive reading of biography and history. - Principal C. J. W. LUTTRELL
