NHS inducts 37 new members 1 'Q You can tie your shoes and I can't, a mentally retarded girl told her tormentors. You know how to read and I don't. So why don't you teach me? Helping others, like this girl, is the life's work of Nlr. Grif Ho- gan, the guest speaker at the 1978 National Honor Society Induction Ceremony. The use of their own talents and abilities to help the less-fortunate is one of the things that made the 37 newly-inducted NHS members stand out from the crowd. Recom- mended by at least three different people for their service, all candidates were then voted on by faculty members, and those who displayed both scholarship and a fine char- acter were chosen to be inducted. Just who had been chosen was kept a secret until present NHS members called each new member from the audience at the assembly. The ceremony reached an emotional peak when Tami Amiri, announcing her sister's induction, burst into tears. News
