the betterment of the school . - 'R L QW Ixos, .V Being assistant principal at a high school calls for a combination of Cary Grant, President Carter, and Jack the Ripper. While we may not have gotten ex- actly that, we did get a master of many talents to fill that position. Mr. Dennis Demcho is the owner, de- signer, builder, and repairer of golf clubs at his Demcho Golf Club Repair shop, and in the past he has been a gas station mechanic, a teacher in Bay Vllage, a stock car driver, assistant course manager and teaching pro in Avon Lake, and a policeman with the Sheffield Lake Police Department. His ex- perience as a policeman was a big help when he be- came Lorain Catholic's Dean of Men, which in turn prepared him to handle the problems that daily be- siege an assistant principal. He spends every minute of the day on the go, which makes getting a picture of him almost impossible! As he puts it, I'm going to live every minute as full as I can live. And as I go along, if I can help one person throughout each day, I'm having a good time and my day's com- plete.

A concerned administration works for Being a high school principal is always a thank- less task. When you're principal of a Catholic school facing inflation, money shortages, gas shortages, killing blizzards, and falling roofs, the problems increase a hundred-fold. For three years S ister John Mary Baker, an educator and admini- strator who learned patience by washing dishes two and a half years before taking final vows, dealt capably and firmly with these and many other problems. She gained not just patience but skill from her years teaching in Detroit, Chicago's Westchester suburb, and at Cleveland Central Catholic, and brought to Lorain Catholic her knowledge: degrees in Biology and English, a Master's Degree from Notre Dame University, and administrative work at Chicago's DePaul Uni- versity. As if her work at LC wasn't exhausting enough, she took time out in the summer to work with the handicapped. Here at LC, she urged the teachers to give more time and concern to the students, and encouraged the students to use their free time wisely while changing the schedule to assure them of an in-depth education. As she puts it, That's my big thing--showing where every- thing fits and having them see it. Otherwise, when they're through with school, they have a 'file drawer' mentality and they're not really edu- cated. She didn't want that to happen here. Too often, these three years, we've failed to see S ister John Mary's dedication in facing the many ob- stacles laid before her and in serving as a symbol of leadership that we could follow. Now, as she leaves Lorain Catholic, we want to offer our be- lated thanks for all she has done for the school and for us. it it
