ALUMNUS MESSAGE TO GRADUATES For the next twenty or thu-ty years maybe more thxs natxon wall play the leadxng role ln world affairs Whxch way wxll It lead the world? If the Chrx txan prmclples that make our country posslble are suffxclen ly strong ln the majority of our people we may lead the wo: ld to recognize true and sound prmclples and to reahze that there ns a vast d1fference between truth and falsehood Not untxl men in hugh positions of the state and the people of that state begm to reallze the value of human personalxty and truth can there be amy local natxonal or universal harmony wzthout xt there can be no peace Fo thmk lt xmposszble to co rect such false and perverse ideas as do exlst IS only to contmue ourselves, ln error We ask How is t ln any way poss1ble Complalnmg, crxtzcxzmg and negatwe analyzing wzll accomplxsh nothlng Posihve constructlve act1on IS necessary But shall we do It over a mght mn a day or perhaps over the pe nod of a year? No By a slow but certam process there IS a posxtwe and sure mf ans One of these means IS educatxon which IS a social and not a mere mdwldual actw lty In the educatlon of the masses hes the signpost to fmal victory Wlth the completlon of h gh school an individual should have an excellent foundation whereon to buld In the graduates from hxgh school IS the hope of our natxon Ther IS also an excellent opportunity for everyone ln self education by reading readlng for a better self and for a better worker Why not read wholesome thlngs for personal advancement and for the common good ? Beszdes readmg for the sole purpose of education xt can be the hlghest type of recreation Once we get into the habxt of readmg we w111 begm to apprec1ate llfe more fully The greatest of all books of course IS the Blble a human llght considering lts hterary value and ts lnfluence for good alone there xs not greater wrxtmg ln the world The subjects are as varled as its literary forms We reallze that there IS a drlft mcreasmg rapidly away from the basic Christian fundamentals But through educatlon and continued wholesome read lng we can feel sure that this trend can be redlrected back to the principles that have made our democracy poss1ble lf an mdwxdual can have the assurance that hxs tmy but of TRUTH 15 more powerful than all the darkness of error w can easily vlsuallze the good that would result 1f a mllhon mdlvlduals could be found to multlply that TRUTH a number of tlmes Yes we must put mto practxce what we have read and what we know to be TRUE We cannot sxt ldly by possessmg TRUTH but not allowlng our friends to be sharers an It just as those wzth antx Chnstlan teachings have, with fanatical enthuslasm made xt thelr business to obtain posltlons 1n every fleld of endeavor helpful toward causing mxlhons of persons over the earth to have a false outlook on hfe, so ought we the more take some posltlve actvon to spread TRUTH and PEACE to the world by which alone xt can survive Yes, we must study and read and BE ENTHUSIASTIC In our work lf the anti Christian elements can do so much, how much more can we do who possess the Truths of Chnstxamty and have as our guide and teacher, TRUTH ITSELF Once a suffrcxent number of people reahze that falsehood IS nothmg more than the absence of truth then there IS a great hope of actxon on a large scale ln behalf of truth If the world IS in a bad condztlon, xt 15 because we are bad It can and never will be more than we are It ns upon our shoulders to see to zt that our condntlons of frnendslup and love are bettered, lt IS our grave oblxgatnon We must bring about a umversal peace or perish xn the whirlpool of error and vice xn hatred and injustice These alms are w1th1n our grasp and wholesome READING will be our starting point Francis Holterman 4-Z It is a library in itself, and its contents have no equal. Simply judging it in . . . . , e . . . . . . . .
