Five lovely young ladies waited anxiously to see which one would be given the honor of being the Loogootee High School 1983 Homecoming Queen. The five elected by the senior class as candidates were: Jodi Sims, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sims, escorted by Wayne Ritchey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ritchey; Amy Patterson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Patterson, escorted by Charlie Blackwell, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Blackwell; Karmen Bratton, daughter of Nancy Allen and Frank Bratton, escorted by Tim Wagler son of Mr. and Mrs. Merv Wagler; Tammy Wenzel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Loran Harding, escorted by Kelly Hunt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hunt; Carol Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Jones, escorted by Ed Harder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Harder. The Senior Class voted for five girls out of all of the girls in their class. All students in every grade were allowed to vote in the final election which decided who would become the queen. Student Council President, Craig Ledgerwood, crowned the queen. His assistants were Angela Walton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Walton, and Jay Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Martin. Finally the big moment arrived. Karmen Bratton was crowned before a very anxious student body. Karmen was given a dozen red roses and a beautiful crown. Following the queen crowning, the Loogootee Lions defeated the North East Dubois Jeeps in a very exciting game. It was Coach Jack Butcher's 499th victory. The Homecoming Dance was held at the St. John Gym with Trilogy providing the music. (left) Tammy, lodi. Amy, Carol, and Karmen don't seem to be showing any pre-ceremony nerves.
