CONCLUSION Above: We focused in on Mr. Butcher at an- other day at basketball practice. At Right: We focused in on Patty Asbell and Rhonda Hardwick, as they perform at the Madrigal Dinner. Far Right: We also focused in on Juniors Kerry Stoll and John Lythgoe. What are you up to boys? FOCUSING IN- FOCUSING OUT Focusing In is the theme for the 1982 Lio Legacy. You may ask, why a theme like Focusing In? Well, we pick a theme that best fits the way the high school is running in that year. For example, the change of dress style, the success of a sport's team or maybe even a teacher. In the 1982 Theme, Focusing In, we put the focus on everything from Senior Spirit to Freshmen Initiation, from the basketball team to the base- ball club, from sweatshirts to monogramed sweaters and from Principal Page to (future) Principal Clark. Focus-In on somebody!!! The 1981-1982 yearbook is dedi- cated to Loogootee High School Principal, Mr. Lester Page. Mr. Page has been principal 21 years and has been in the field of education 34 years. Mr. Page graduated from Bicknell High School in 1940. He then attend- ed Indiana State University for two years. He then entered the U.S. Air Force in 1942 and served four years (1942-1946). During this time he achieved the rank of Lieutenant. Upon discharge from service. Mr. Page resumed studies at Indiana State and earned the B.S. degree in 1948. Shortly thereafter, he began teaching Industrial Arts at Wheatland High School. During this time he also was head baseball and basketball coach. In 1952, Mr. Page moved to Loogoo- tee and continued teaching Industri- al Arts as well as coaching baseball and basketball. In 1961, he accepted the principalship at the high school. Mr. Page in his teaching days at Wheatland High School. Mr. Page Retires After 34 Years of Dedication Mr. Page in his high school days at Bicknell High School. After 34 years service to Loogootee High School Mr. Page has something to smile about!!! Thank you Mr. Page for your many years of services to the Loogootee High School system. Your 34 years of ser- vices and dedication will long be re- membered! Mr. Page contributed greatly to the Loogootee Athletic tradition in that he coached varsity basketball during the '53, '54. and '55 seasons. He was varsi- ty baseball coach for nine years winning several conference championships and Martin-Daviess County Tourneys. He also served as Athletic Director for nine years. Thanks to the efforts of Mr. Page, base- ball was reactivated on a high school level in 1952-1953. His first game with Odon on September 9, 1952 ended in a 4 to 4 tie, and was called because of darkness. He organized the Martin-Da- viess County Tourney which generated a lot of local interest. The tourney was comparable to the present IHSAA Sec- tional. It was played each fall from 1953 to 1966. During the summer of 1953, he expanded to a summer baseball pro- gram, which is still in operation, to in- clude Little League teams, Pony League teams and a High School team. Mr. Page operated this program for several years and influenced the lives of many youngsters with his unique style of guid- ance. 5 STUDENT LIFE LIVE IN-LIVE OUT THIS ... is the way it is! How many teams can have only one returning starter and yet win the Sectional and their third consecutive Blue Chip Conference crown ? The players were winners not only as a team, but also individually. Several players were named to various all star teams around the area. J.R. Doyle was named to the Aca- demic All-State team and also was a southern Indiana All Star. Basketball wasn't the only place we were winners. The boys’ Tennis team book their first Sectional crown and won their third consecutive conference title. Loogootee High School had a lot to be proud of this year and their spirit showed it at LHS. We are well-known for our con- tagious and spontaneous enthusiasm and Tourney Week was our chance to show it off. ADVERTISEMENTS One last time we focused in on another side of Loogootee High School. A side which shines to its peak through the entire year and dies with each graduating class. That most special side is the Senior class. For that one special year, a joyous nine months, the Senior class has it all—power, superiority and fame. But it is merely a dream come true which later turns into a memory after graduation. As we sit in view in front of 3000 friends, relatives and spectators, many thoughts ramble through our brains of all that has taken place over the last twelve years. Even though this may be the last time we will all ever be assembled together at one place and at one time, we just have to hold on to that one special moment all through our lives. So we walk out the doors of L.H.S. for the last time as high school students into a new world. As we walk through the doors we must hold our heads high and with our diplomas and tassels in hand, we must be proud. It took determination, will-power and guts, but we did it—Class of 1982. Our lives will never be the same from this time forward and even though a tear or two may fall from our cheeks, we must always keep one foot in front of the other to stay ahead. Congratulations Class of 1982, we did it! Richard D. Barber. Yearbook Editor 82 LOOGOOTEE FEED AND GRAIN MASTER MIX custom grinding, mixing, liquad pro; delivery. Feeder contracts on hogs.
