Every subject taught here at LHS is taught by a qualified individual and the results have continually been very good. Loogootee High School has one of the best reputations in Indiana, and our PSAT and SAT Test scores are consistently high every year. This is indeed a credit to our outstanding LHS faculty. NEW FOUNDATIONS” BUILT FOR LHS STUDENTS The Building Trades students have built a house in the Belgrade addition northeast of Loogootee. Mr. Paul Miller is the instructor. It is a three bedroom house, with a two-car garage and many other extras. On the regular Real Estate market the house would sell for approximately $60,000. The profit obtained from the sale of the house will be divided among its investors, and the gain will be used to buy materials for next year's house. HEALTH OCCUPATIONS The Health Occupations course was started this year as a part of the Twin Rivers Vocational Health Occupation Program based at Loogootee. The first task of the group was to learn the many procedures of the health field before going deeper into each facet of learning. Each member of the group is now certified in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, and during school vacations, the students are employed in various area hospitals, nursing homes, and veterinarian clinics to apply what they have learned. Ms. Jill Sweikharth is the supervisor and instructor of the program. OEA . . . The Office Education Association is an advanced course that runs 5th and 6th periods. Those individuals that complete the intensive office laboratory are qualified for most entry level clerical positions. Several will be continuing their education in the business field, and our business laboratory gives a big head start to its graduates. The lab requires each student to have had two years of typing, as well as one year of shorthand before acceptance. Mr. L. Kavanaugh teaches Business Math. General Business, and is shown here working with his typing class. OEA members pictured are: L. McKean. D. Howell M. Hart. K. Smith, B. Parker. K. Waggoner; 2nd row: M. Arvin, J. Miller. R. Stoll. D. But through their willingness to learn and their natural abilities, they have created something on which they can look back and say: I was a part of that and I am proud of my contribution ' Putting a yearbook together takes a lot of work. There are deadlines that have to be met, pictures that have to be taken, and copy that has to be written. We cannot write down the amount of work that has been put into this book. It is hard to imagine a staff of 17 people, freshmen through seniors, accomplishing such a task. A special thanks also goes to our sponsor, Ms. Ackerman (Elmo), for putting up with us, yelling when we needed it, and always being there for advice and help. Thanks for a great year! What meaning does this have to the Seniors of 1981? In reality it has a lot to do with the class itself and the accomplishments they have earned and the challenges they have yet to run into but are ready to undertake when they fall their way. The class of 1981 is pretty well summed up in the word Future . This word shows their persistency to work, to conquer, and to be the best. Friendship shows the relationship they have with one another. Upward shows the path in which they plan to travel. Trials and Tribulations show they are ready for problems to come their way. Unique shows their originality and specialness compared to others. Risk shows their determination to do something and to be someone in the end. Excel shows how they will take what has been taught to them and spread it to others. Is this game of life a true game? Of course it is. Our whole life is made up of challenges and risks and trials and tribulations and all the other paths we follow every day of our lives. Will we ever win or come to the end? No one will ever reach the end, no matter how hard they try. They may think they have come to the end, but if they really tried they could have come that one step farther. If they can not go on, there will always be someone else to take over. No, there is never a loser and there is never a winner, just good competitors. 175 Editor; Rick Barber !f I
