Text from Pages 1 - 184 of the 1980 volume:

c 0 A totem Is an object used to symbolize an important feeling or idea of a group. Our totem is signified by a closet filled with items that represent our school and our way of life. Our main totem is a Mountain Dew can and it appears on the shelf of every closet. Empty Mountain Dew cans can be found in almost every trash can, the school parking lot, the gym, and the lockers. As far as Loogootee High School students are concerned, Mountain Dew is the drink and many would not be seen drinking anything else. The first closet contains general things that remind us of all aspects of school life. A Mountain Dew can, a basketball, a prom bouquet, a Senior band sweater, books, jeans, pom pons and a megaphone. The remaining closets just contain the items that represent their particular section. .u TABLE OF CONTENTS THEME................. 1 SENIORS............... 3 JUNIORS...............34 PROM..................41 SOPHOMORES............44 FRESHMEN..............50 ACADEMICS.............57 ACTIVITIES............77 SPORTS...................109 ADS......................136 YEARBOOK.................166 CONCLUSION...............168 BLACK AND GOLD 1980 LOOGOOTEE HIGH SCHOOL 201 BROOKS AVENUE LOOGOOTEE, INDIANA 47553 Bernard Paul Butcher Richard Terrance Butcher Steve L. Gloria Green, Marcia Daily 170 Yearbook A great amount of credit should be given to the members of the 1980 Black Gold Yearbook Staff. They were faced with many new ideas of designing yearbooks. Many of these ideas were introduced at Journalism Camp at Indiana University this past summer. Another problem that faces the yearbook staff was switching yearbook companies. The hard work of these people is the reason that this yearbook is a success. We would like to thank all the members and especially Miss Ackerman for their hard work. It couldn't have been done without their hard work and devotion. Thanks, Sheila Kemp and Shannon Dunnam, Editors Julia Patterson and Kyle Doyle are working hard to complete their Homecoming pages. Editors: Shannon Dunnam and Sheila Kemp Lions' Den. Seated—Sherry Schnarr and Kelly Fox, Standing—Phil Arvin 171 On the previous pages, you have seen the life of Loogootee High School students throughout the 1979-1980 school year. The pictures tell the story as well as the copy. This year has been a good one for all aspects of school life. It was a good year for sports, organizations and the all-around school life. So now, we close the closet door to another year full of good memories. Sheila Kemp Senior Editor 172 % -
