On January 15, 1979, the Senior class voted on the class colors, flower, and the class motto. The following were chosen: CLASS COLORS: Ivory and Burgundy CLASS FLOWER: Ivory rose tipped in Burgundy CLASS MOTTO: The Past is a memory, but Ms. Jill Littell and Mr. Robert Grannan. 106 SENI0RS AN ENCOUNTER WITH THE CLASS OF 1979 On August 28, 1975, we became greenies, freshmen of Loogootee High School. At that time we had three goals to fulfill: 1) to become better educated citizens, 2) to grow and mature in our awareness of life, and 3) to use our education as a means of livelihood and live life to its fullest. Mr. Robert Grannan and Ms. Jill Littell, our class sponsors, led us through many endeavors which included money-making projects, pep sessions, dances, and the Prom. Our first project was a freshman dance, which was held at St. John’s gym in November. During the latter portion of April, 1976, we held a beach party at West Boggs. Hot dogs and volleyball, along with music and dancing, contributed to this memorable occasion. Our sophomore year we became more aware of the not-so-distant Junior-Senior Prom. We managed the coat-check during all home ballgames; second semester we sponsored the annual chili supper. At the end of our triumphant year, we received our class rings. It was hard to believe that we were at our midpoint. Before we could blink an eye, we suddenly became juniors. The concession stands at home basketball games awaited us. After we had completed our last fund raiser, the concession stands, the big event had arrived. On the evening of April 22nd, 1978, the Junior-Senior Prom was held. The evening began with the traditional Grand March. Following the March, a banquet-dance was held at the Officers’ Mess, NWSC Crane. We’re All Alone was the theme. The couples danced to MAN, MYTH and MAGIC. Post-Prom activities were held at the Brunswick Bowling Lanes. A breakfast at the LHS cafeteria, sponsored by our generous parents, followed the Post-Prom activities. No sooner had we taken a rest when the ultimate moment had arrived; we entered the last phase of our journey, our Senior year. Our first concern was to exchange our Senior pictures with fellow members and underclassmen. Soon we ordered our class keys, announce- ments, and memory books. Many Seniors received their jackets and sweaters which repre- sented their participation in various LHS organizations. Eventually, the situation became more complex. Decisions concerning the future had to be made. College, marriage, the military, etc., were a result of those decisions. The time had come for us, the class of 1979, to graduate and go forth into the world of new challenges. Our work at LHS is now complete. With our advanced education and many memorable experiences, we will enter the next phase of our lives, the future. A dance was held after the game at the St. John's gym featuring Abacus. The evening was very enjoyable to everyone and will be long remembered. (Oppos.
