Four school years ago, a young and eager class passed through the doors of Loogootee High School into the security of routine. They passed safely through the crises of bake sales and sweater sales to the long-awaited moment when they hosted the Junior-Senior Prom of 1971. This class contributed to the memories of the high school by producing several of its finest basketball players, who helped bring home the honors of going to the State Finals in 1970 and to the Sweet Sixteen in 1971. It also produced the first Senior Class Play to be seen in Loogootee in several years. These are but a few of the memories left by this class, but they shall linger. We, the class of ’72, entered those doors as a class strong and united; we are now passing out as individuals, each clutching his talents and hoping for the best. As one of our last high school actions as a class, we, the class of ’72, would like to say thank you to our parents, our teachers, our friends, and especially our sponsors, Mrs. Holland and Mr. Russell, for the memories which will keep us strong as individuals. We would like also to wish a fond farewell to the underclassmen. We sincerely hope that they too, may have a memorable four years. Queen Lora and King Bnan “Stairway to Heaven” was the theme of the 1972 Junior-Se- nior Prom held on May 13. 1972. in the student lounge. The couples entered the lounge under an archway entwined with ii J and green spring flowers, down a flagstone pathway and under silver clouds studded with gold stars. Chukkar . the dance band, was seated on a green grass knoll in front of a beautiful bird bath, with live fish, surrounded by large rocks. The couples danced through a large forest, complete with animals, depicted by handpainted wall murals. The center of attraction was a snow white, green carpeted stairway which disappeared into fluffy white clouds, with a backdrop of dark blue sky studded with gold stars. This pro- vided the perfect setting for couples to pose for pictures. 89 91 “WE’VE ONLY JUST BEGUN” “We’ve Only Just Begun was the motto of the graduating class of 1972. Commencement exercises were held on May 26. 1972, at 8:30 P.M.. beginning with the processional which was played by the L.H.S. band. The invocation was given by Bro. Herbert Baynes. The L.H.S. band then played the Star Spangled Banner and a beautiful and very stirring arrangement of the Battle Hymn of the Republic. Speeches were given by members of the graduating class involving the class motto. We’ve Only Just Begun Ron Frye. To Live Jeff Krodcl, To Serve Susan Lett. To Understand Pauls O’Connor. To Love Brenda Ncukam. To Better Jerry Kemp Kemp, To Conquer John Clark. To Lndurc” Scott Stoll. Diplomas were then given to 128 seniors by Mr. Holland, class sponsor, and Mr. Page, the principal. The Benediction was given by Bro. Herbert Baynes, followed by the recessional played by the L.H.S. band. 92 93 SENIORS PRESENT CLASS PLAY The Senior Class of 1972 was the first class in several years to present a Senior Class Play.
