SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY Since I will soon be leaving for my embassy in Argentina, I have taken advantage of my last few weeks here in the States to look up my classmates from L. H. S. First, I returned to the Hoosier State and the city of Zinnias. Surprisingly, many of the class of '66 are still af- filiated with Loogootee High. The senior government teacher, Ronnie Mehne, has stamped out the cribbing prob- lem. He prints notes for all his students. Fern Wood is teaching the third grade at the Elementary School. She's the only one I know who took her student teaching during high school. Clarence Gilliam has organized the L. H.S. band into a precision marching unit. Ed Hamilton's son is the only one out of time. Gregg Fish, the principal, is well-known throughout the state for his unique methods. A popular pair is Dianna Summers and Bryan Gregory. Dianna teaches her special brand of math to L.H.S. quiz-kids while Bryan warps their minds in his psychology classes. The immaculate halls of the new school are the pride and joy of Don Stoll and Charlie Conover. We all know they've had lots of practice. The cooking in the cafeteria by Cheryl Strange and Lorene Swartzentruber is just as tantalizing as it was back in 1966. Bobbie McCord taught physical ed. for a while but is now recovering from shock in a rest home. She just couldn't believe that they had finally built a new gym. Elsewhere in Loogootee, other members of our class have achieved various degrees of success. Mike Peek, Coun- ty Highway Commissioner, may frequently be seen measuring the black patches left by hot-rodders. The beautiful mansion on John F. Kennedy Avenue belongs to Gerald Strange. He made his fortune with the invention of a revo- lutionary new mousetrap. Andy's I. G.A. Store suddenly went bankrupt last year after Gary Thompson purchased it. Jonnie Cochran, Bonnie Truelove, and Dianne McKibben are lovely models at Nancy Arvin's fashion maison. They've finally proved that blonds do have more fun. Ronnie Edwards runs a prosperous insurance agency, insur- ing only safe drivers. I wonder why he's so rich with so few clients. Donna Littrell is a renowned authoress. She writes after the style of D. H. Lawrence. Joe Livers now owns the textile factory. I guess moonlighting does pay. Steve Elms is in jail now. He decided to stop moonlighting and turned to moonshining. Charlie Parish has done quite well in the political field. He is the Mayor of Farlin, Indiana. Sandra Pendley Simmons is a much sought after celebrity as an after-dinner speaker. Everyone likes her self-in- troduction as Sandy Andy. 27 The incumbent Governor of Indiana, Ronnie Goller, is fighting an election duel with the opposing party leader, Ronnie Bledsoe. Whoever wins, we are confident, will make a superb leader for the Hoosier State. I found other of my classmates in various parts of the country: Quite a few members of the class of '66 are well- known leaders in the automotive field. Rose McGuire won the Daytona 500 last year. She said her pit crew, Kenny Hedrick, Martin Drew, and Lonnie Survance, was a collection of mechanical geniuses, a point debated by many. She drove a Kaiser-Frazier automobile manufactured by Randy Kaiser. John Milligan is a big dealer in motorcycles. His sales slogan is When in doubt about cycles, see your nearest neighborhood hood. Denny Allen owns the Lucky Strike Tobacco Company in Richmond, Virginia. He's a key figure in the legislative battle to abolish smoking prohibitions in schools. Pixie Strickland has taken up a writing career. Her most recent best seller is, Why I Forget to Remove My Gum in Psychology Class. Vonda Parsons is out in Montana with her sheep rancher husband. She says she's always been very fond of lambs. Wilma Rinsch has done extensive work in biological research. She has recently developed a new variety of mon- key, the Rinsch Monkey; or is it the Monkey Rinsch? Ronnie Steele is president of the Gillette Safety Razor Company. I was surprised to find he had overcome his fear of shaving. Mickie Coget bought the Beech-Nut Chewing Gum Company. Her new television commercial shows a classroom full of girls saying, Got Any Gom? ✓ Several members of our class make their homes on the West Coast now. Lynda Moore and Rose Hembree are Los Angeles hair stylists. They've worked for Phyllis Diller, Dr. Zorba, and Cousin It. Linda Taylor owns an illustrious Hollywood dance troupe, Tat's Tappers. Margaret Cox recently won an Oscar for her performance in Think Small by her playwrite husband Larry Dent. John Inman has just released his latest movie, Ladies Prefer Redheads. Delores Waggoner has her own television serial, Batwoman. Jill Perkins, who returned to California after her year at L. H.S., went into motion pictures too, but, like so many theatrical people, turned to politics. She's a 28 current leader in the gubernatorial race. The class of '66 has contributed a great deal to the exploration of outer space; Joann Neideffer and Linda Bled- soe were the first women to land on Mars. Cheryl Truelove owns a Rustic Night Club on the moon. Lunar teens think it's the place to Go-Go. David Sanders coaches basketball at a high school on the moon. He has no trou- ble dunking it up there. Terry Hosier was scheduled to be the first man on Saturn, but, unfortunately, he was late arriving at the launch pad. I guess that proves that tardiness is a habit. I had to return to Washington, D.C. to arrange for my departure, but there I found still more of my classmates. Sue McCrary was not long ago elected to the Senate, on the Conservative Ticket, of course. Minority Leader of the House is none other than Susan Street. The way Senator McCrary and Representative Street are tearing up the streets of Washington is the major problem facing Police Commissioner Danny Cox and his Chief-of-Police Larry Wildman. Since the recent appointment of Earl Crowder to the President's Cabinet as Postmaster General, more mail has been lost than ever before in the history of the United States. Eileen Weitkamp is now United States Am- bassador to the U. N. We know her to be well acquainted with the work of that great body. Don Gowins is head of the CIA and it seems there is a dangerous security leak in that department. As I boarded the plane, the lady be- fore me seemed somewhat familiar. I was happy to see it was Laura Crane. It seems she's the wife of the military attache at the embassy. By: Brad Gregory 29 SENIOR CLASS HISTORY On Your Mark! Get Set! Go! In September of 1962 the class of 1966 started its four year race at L. H.S. The sponsor, Mr. Henry Jones, set the pace for the seventy-one class runners. During the first lap, the class sponsored a sock-hop, a candy sale, and the movie, Rome Adventure. Mickie Coget became our varsity cheerleader. Leading the pack for the first lap were: President ------------- Jonnie Cochran Vice-President--------- Terry Hosier Secretary ------------- Donald Stoll Treasurer ------------- Martin Drew Beginning the second lap in the fall of 1963, the sixty runners were still coached by Mr. Jones. The class ran through a very successful sock-hop. Now in the lead were: President ------------- Terry Hosier Vice-President--------- Bobbie McCord Secretary ------------- Mickie Coget Treasurer ------------- Sue McCrary Mr. Jones was still calling the numbers during the third lap. The sixty-nine classmen successfully sponsored a spaghetti dinner, a sock-hop, and a candy sale. Eveiyone enjoyed the Junior-Senior Prom. The ball was set amid the orchards of Apple Blossom Time. Out in front for this lap were: President-------------- Sue McCrary Vice-President--------- Dianna Summers Secretary ------------- Terry Hosier Treasurer ------------- Susan Street In September of 1965 fifty-nine seniors rounded the turn and began the final lap of their high school career. With Mr. Jones as their sponsor, the Class of '66 has completed a successful sock-hop, asaleof greeting cards, and a sale of light bulbs. The class has worked hard throughout the year to make The Black and Gold a success. Leaders of the pack for the final lap have been: President------------- Dianna Summers Vice-President-------- Gary Thompson Secretary------------- Fern Wood Treasurer ------------ Sue McCrary When the Class of '66 breaks the final tape at commencement on May 20, 1966, they will be able to look back on the course with fond rememberances of high-school days. But the tape will not be the end, for, as our motto states: We have crossed the bay, the ocean lies before us. 30 Dale McKibben Jo Kay Harkness Rick Anderson Donna Sutton Vicki Padgett Donna Parsons Denny Long Charma Myers Chris Murphy Dianne Inman Jerry Richardson Jenny Hedrick Pat Pankey Nona Sutton Gary Byrd Gary Neukam Gary Robertson Norman Survance Charles Cox Susie Perkins Johnny Lagle Jim Huebner Steve Bough Patsy Gregory Larry Frye Alma Hanger Roddy Cochran Darlene Padgett Rita Strickland Steve Brett Brenda Walton Gilbert Souerdyke Diane J. The marching band entertained spectators of the Loogootee-Montgomery ball game November 24th. The majorettes, Laura Crane, Bobbie McCord, Jo Dee Page, Nancy Elms, Kathy Jeffers, Becky Bough, and Joyce Witsman, added a touch of lovely femininity to the performances of the marching band. On December 22nd, the dance band presented a concert for the entire student body. Several proms in this area have been graced by the music of this superb group. The pep band has provided half-time entertainment at all home ball games. In the solo and ensemble contest at Bedford in January, sixty-two band members displayed their musical proficiency with flying colors. We feel the Band Boosters, Mr. Hamilton and the ninety-eight band members should be congratulated for the fine job they have turned out this year. 59 LIONS 1965-1966 Coach Jack Butcher steered the Lions to a tremendous season for 1965-1966. The Lions ended the sea- son with a very commendable record of 18 wins and only 5 losses. The Lions failed to capture a trophy in either the Jasper Invitational Tourney or the IHSAA Sectional, but they played spirited basketball the entire season and dropped only 3 regular games. The sectional went to a nip-and-tuck climax in the al- most traditional Lions vs. Hatchets final game. The Lions did not win the championship, but the school and community are proud of the way the team played. Heartiest congratulations go to the team and coaches.
