«Senior ,la.AA clliMory Ten-nine-eight-seven-six-five-four-three-two-one-launched the four-year stage rocket of the 1965 crew from Cape L.H.S. Seventy-three crewmen were guided by our pilot, Kathryn Jones. Under the direction of Mrs. Jones and chief crewman Dale Baker, we sponsored a candy sale, sock-hop, sold stationery, and a Christmas party. Kathy Canada was elected as our varsity cheerleader. Mike Bohlinger, Steve Page, Steve Leighty, and Terry LaMar were members of the 1962 S. W.I.A.C. Baseball Champions and Martin County Champions. Mike Bohlinger was a member of the 1962 Basketball Sectional Champs. The second stage of our four-year stage rocket continued in orbit with a crew of sixty-eight members. Mrs. Jones and Dale Baker continued their positions as pilot and chief crewman. During that stage we sponsored two sock-hops, a movie, a candy sale, and the selling of pens. Mike Bohlinger, Steve Page, Terry LaMar, and Steve Leighty were members of the Baseball S. W.I.A.C. Champions for the second consecutive season. Steve Page and Mike Bohlinger were members of the Loogootee Lions first undefeated season in basketball. The third stage of our rocket continued orbiting with a crew of sixty-two members. Mr. Ira Clark was selected to act as co-pilot for the remainder of the trip. During that stage we spon- sored two sock-hops, a chili supper, a movie, a car wash, two catuly sales, a bake sale, a pumpkin sale, and the selling of concessions at home basketball games. Mike Harbison, Steve Page, Mike Bohlinger, Roger Fox, Terry LaMar and Steve Leighty were members of the 1964 Basketball Regional Finalist. Nine members of the class were selected to be charter members of the National Honor Society. Those were: Dale Baker, Jeanne Baker, Roger Fox, Martha Hoff- man, Sharon Hoffman, Steve Page, Donna Parsons, Beth Smith, and Cheryl Walton. Cheryl Wal- ton was Loogootee's representative to Hoosier Girls' State while Sharon Hoffman was alternate. On May 9, 1964, a banquet and a prom were given in honor of the seniors. The theme was Pink Champagne. On August 31, 1964, we began our last orbit with a crew of fifty-nine seniors. Mrs. Jones and Mr. Clark continued as class sponsors while Steve Page was elected as our chief crewman. Thus far, we have sponsored a car wash, a chili supper, two sock-hops, a candy sale, and sold Christmas cards, toothbrushes, and light bulbs. Three new members from the senior class were added to the National Honor Society. They were Margie Lagle, Carole Mauder, and Darrell Swartzentruber. Jeanne Baker added to the honors of the senior class by being named Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow, and represented our school in two speech contests. Sharon Hoffman was the proud recipient of the D.A.R. Good Citizenship Award. Roger Fox, another out- standing senior, received word of his nomination to West Point. Donna Parsons acted as a Page in the House of Representatives in February. Ten seniors received band sweaters for their faith- ful service to the L.H.S. Band Department. They were: Dale Baker, Jeanne Baker, Sharon Hoffman, Martha Hoffman, Beth Smith, Paulette Brandon, Joyce Walton, Cheryl Walton, Kenny Woods, and Jim Hembree. In the sports department L.H.S. has come around in the traditional Lion style. They captured the North Knox Invitational Tourney Crown and were in the Sectional finals for the fifth consecutive year. Mike Bohlinger, Steve Page, Terry LaMar, Steve Leighty, Roger Fox, and Mike Harbison were those seniors who received letter jackets for excellence in sports. Tom Haste was also a member of the basketball team in his senior year. The seniors are looking forward to the remainder of their last orbit which will include a class play, a dance, and numerous other money-raising projects for their class trip to Washington D.C. and New York City. On May 21, 1965, our four-year stage rocket will return to earth for the L.H.S. Commence- ment Exercise. We will be reluctant to leave and go our separate ways for the past four years have been filled with joy, sorrow, knowledge, lasting friendships and the hope of promising fu- tures. We wish to thank our teachers, friends, and above all, our parents for everything they have done for us. We, the Class of 1965 hope to live up to our motto: With the ropes of the past, we'll ring the bells of the future , so as to make everyone proud of us. 27
