May 31, 1985 Dear Sputniks In the past year and a half I have done some extensive traveling all over the world to visit my fonner class- mates of my dear high school days at L.H.S. Being that it had been nearly twenty-five years since I had last seen some of them I was amazed at how little my friends had changed. I first talked with Larry Hotz at the National Guard Armory in Richmond, Virginia. He is the Commanding Officer of the National Guard. I asked him what he thought of the President's latest military moves and of the war problems we now face in America. Larry said he thought Mr. Lincoln was hasty in signing the Eman- cipation Proclamation, and commented that he thought Grant might take Richmond by next week. From Virginia I traveled to Vincennes, Indiana to visit the University there, and to my surprise I saw Cheryl Martin and Barbara Richardson walking towards the library on the campus. Yes, they are beginning their eighteenth year there. It seems they have a crush on one of the professors. While I was in the Loogootee area once again I went to visit Paula Divine in the Old Folks Home near Loogootee. She wouldn't speak to me for some odd reason. Oh, yes, Gene Chanley still had his problems, and has voiced them very well in his new hit record entitled Hey, Paula. It is a shame Gene is going to retire from show business, but he decided it would be best for him and the business. In Antarctica, Phil Gowins almost became water skiing champion of the world but was disqualified when the officials found out that his skis were really shoes, and that his shoes were really canoes. In Washington D.C. people are still asking themselves how Karla Greene became the first woman President, and then managed to appoint Danny Williams as Ambassador to Siberia. I talked to Junior Gee in Boston and he has declined from basketball to bake beans being that he owns one of the largest baked bean plants in Boston. I finally made it to Europe. My first stop was in Pisa, France where the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa once stood. Bob Sinnot was commissioned by a Mr. Larkin to prove his worth as a salesman. You guessed it! Bob sold the Leaning Tower of Pisa to the Gary Norris Construction Company just last week. The sale shocked the whole world but Bob proved he was the world's best salesman. His trial should be coming up very shortly. From Pisa I traveled to Paris. Mickie Perkins and Lynn Drew are doing very well as models and Can Can girls. When I traveled to Rome I was surprised to see Phyllis Survance down at the Forum. She is still looking for some of the people who haven't paid for their Senior pins or keys. My last stop in Europe before returning to the States found me in London, England. To my surprise I found many of my former classmates there. Jeanne Swartzentruber, Judy Seals, and Shirley McCrary are royal cooks at Buckingham Palace. Norma Lannan and Margaret Wenzel were also in London, but for a different reason. They are starring in a new movie entitled, On the Bleach. I think the movie has something to do with fallout (hair, that is). After I got back to the States, I headed straight to the Rocky Mountains area where Tom Medina was hunt- ing for the porcupine that eloped with one of his prize cactus plants. Tom is a cactus breeder for the govern- ment and is beginning to look like a cactus himself. The only difference is that Tom wears shoes. Mick Smith became the heir of Smith Brother's Cough Drops. Yes, he told me that the founder of the firm is the nephew of his father's uncle's brother's cousin's grandmother. So naturally Mick became the heir. Pat Harper is in New York City making final arrangements to take over the reins as the editor of Harper's Magazine. I moved out to California for the winter months only to find out that Bob Enlow was the latest movie sen- sation. He is doing a fine job taking up where Boris Karloff left off in the Dracula series. Pat Duncan is still a senior in high school but things are looking up for her. In five more years she can graduate, then retire and collect old-age insurance. Actually she is the only person to make education a career. Brenda Truelove and Brenda Gillick made history, in that they were the first women to ever get a job at Cape Canaveral and if I may say so, the last. Too bad! They pushed the wrong button. Nancy Seals and Lee Arvin are still together. I remember when they met in a revolving door and started running around together. In Chicago I ran into Bob Arvin one day on Maxwell Street. He told me he runs the world's most prosperous organ grinding business. I can remember when he just started out in business, he owned only one hand organ and a small monkey, he still owns the same hand organ but has added a gorilla. He says he has no trouble getting people to put money in the cup now. Z2

Senior Class History We entered as freshmen with fifty-two members. It was the largest class in our high school. The freshmen, with the help of Mrs. Amelia Lucas, sponsored a very successful sock hop and two bake sales. The class officers were: President...... Vice-President Secretary...... Treasurer .... We sponsored two sock hops, two bake sales, and a number of candy sales. The proceeds went toward our prom. Phyllis Survance Our Junior Class consisted of forty-two members. The year was a profitable one. Mrs. Amelia Lucas was our sponsor. We sponsored a very successful prom, the theme was Moon River. We sponsored many money-making pro- jects. Among these were bake sales, candy sales, a chili supper, a spaghetti supper, and a show. Tony Bledsoe received his official diploma as a first-class lover from the House of Lovers, Inc. From Chicago I traveled down to Puerto Rico to visit Darrell Smith on his gigantic banana plantation. I can see now why Darrell has such a big smile. He's the only person I know that can eat a banana sideways! In Alaska, Bob Neideffer is running for governor of that state. Bob usually doesn't have any luck with politics but he does have a pretty little Eskimo girl named One Tooth. I don't know the name of the other tooth. I was reading in the paper this morning where Bob Hinkle built a three mile high construction job and stepped back to admire his work, too bad he was on top of the building. In Indianapolis I attended a banquet in honor of James Ziegler; James is a State Trooper now and doing a great job. He was being honored for capturing ten of the Least Wanted Criminals in the nation. Gerald Frye was a successful tree surgeon in the Hawaiian Islands, until he fell out of one of his patients. Wonder if the tree was hurt? Margaret Hoffman and Vickie Jeffers are old maids now living together in their 44 room mansion in Atlanta, Georgia. We still wonder how they made their fortunes. Their hobby is exchanging gifts. It seems Marg ex- changes the ones Vickie buys her and Vickie exchanges the ones Marg buys her. John Simmons, a successful big game hunter has just returned from South America where he just shot and stuffed his first elephant ear. Alice Lingenfelter and Diane Wagner are just out of this world, they being the women astronauts were put into orbit around Venus. It is reported that they don't want to come back. Wonder what's up there? Terry Hall is now teaching English in foreign countries but we still wonder where he learned his. To see the last of my classmates I had to travel back to Loogootee. When I arrived, I was amused to hear that Betty Lukens had just been crowned Grandmother of Martin County 1984. Amusingly yours, Rick Coget 23
