CLASS 1 IW Ml EC Y After ten years of saving, scrimping, and penny-pinching, I was finally able to fulfill my lifelong dream of taking a trip around the world. I decided to combine my trip and the fun of looking up my old classmates from L. H.S. I decided that if I had a traveling companion, I would enjoy the trip more, but whom could I persuade to go with me? I pondered this question for awhile and came up with the answer—Sandy Parish! I picked Sandy for two reasons. First, she was my friend and second, she had enough money to pay her own way (she had recently cleaned up at the tables in Las Vegas). We packed our bags, boarded the train, and headed for San Francisco singing California, Here We Come. When the conductor came by to punch our tickets, we recognized him as Carrol Davis. He pointed out another classmate who was also on the train. It was Mike Lett. We talked with Mike for quite awhile and recalled some of the good times we used to have in high school. He told us that he was on his way to Hollywood to star in a new television show about a doctor. (Who says you can't predict the future? I remember when we were still in school, we used to call him Doc. ) He told us that Marvin Survance was now president of a big oil company in Texas. I believe he also said something about a rumor that Marvin's uncle owned the company. We arrived in San Francisco and transferred to a luxury liner bound for Honolulu. Upon arriving in Hawaii, we decided to take a few hula lessons. To our surprise the instructor turned out to be Roy Pannell. We chatted with Roy and he gave us a tip as to where we might find another of our classmates He told us to go to a big department store in the heart of the city. We thanked him for the tip and went to the store to find Ralph Mauder modeling muu-muus. Both Roy and Ralph seemed to be happy in their work. After bidding the islands farewell, we sailed for the Orient. We landed in China and started out to do some sightseeing. We took a ride in a rickshaw. Deciding that we were hungry, we asked the driver to stop at a little Chinese restaurant. After tipping the rickshaw driver, we started to walk away but taking a second look under that funny little hat we found James Bruner. We asked Jim how he ever came to be in China pulling a rickshaw. He told us that our prom had inspired him. We entered the restaurant and were amazed to find an American atmosphere, but what else could you expect with an American owner. In fact, she was a classmate of ours—Andrea Palladino. 22 Next our trip took us to Italy. First to Rome, where a new movie was being filmed starring those two top box office stars, Donna Lagle and Charles Day. Then we went to Venice for a ride in a gondola with a singing gondolier. His name seemed vaguely familiar—Mike Newton.
