Senior Class Prophecies I had the craziest dream last night. It seems I always nave crazy dreams when I eat onion and peanut butter sandwiches before going to bed. It seems that the class of 1959 was having it's ten-year reunion. We were all anxious to see one another again, but I must admit we all were very surprised to learn that Anna Bateman couldn't come because she was tied up with im- portant business in Las Vegas. The local sheriff, also a former classmate, Paul Waggoner, wanted to close her dance hall on Saturday nights. The place where we held our reunions was the Pennington Plaza Hotel. Our friend, Bobby ran the hotel in his spare time. The rest of the time was spent answering letters from his fan club, the president of which was Carolyn Day. We were very honored to have in our presence Charlie Seals, local bank president, and the millionaire actress Kay Mattingly, whose latest movie hit, Gentlemen Prefer Women , also starring Ruby Bridget Stoll, and Rocky Bob Chandler was playing at Loogootee's newest drive-in theater, The Park and Spark owned by Gordon B. Phillips. I decided that I'd watch television until the others arrived. The news announcer, Dale Smith, informed the United States that our ambassador, Richard Davis, had ar- rived safely in Moscow, and that his private aviatress, Dixie Watkins, who always did like fly-boys, was on her way back to a class reunion. Soon a western came on. The name of the program was Tall Tales of a Short Sheriff starring none other than Clifford McGuire. The commercial for the Xetyalp Corporation was sung by Wilmer Wittmer. His writer was Virginia Wilson who be- came famous for writing words backwards. The next program to appear was The Frank Trester Bandstand , whose theme song was The Sugar Booger Blues . His special guest star was the famous comedian, Roy Cole and his three little boys, Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Another old friend of mine who had recently made headlines was Mary Alice Milligan. It seems that she had started an open war against policemen. Mary Beth Brothers was now owner of Loogootee's largest Pool Room, which was under the management of Ricnard Watkins. Her Pool Room was located next to Janice's Pizza Parlor operated by Janice Evans. Richard Hoffman, whose farms covered most of Martin and Dubois counties, was happily married, and running for mayor of Haysville in the next election. His cam- paign manager, Jim Frye, was also married and the head of the Whitfield Chamber of Commerce. Mary Rose Farley, now had seven children, each with his own Volks- wagen. (She always liked little ones). Connie Arvin had just returned from a trip to the moon. She brought several moon men with her for slaves in her laboratory. She said her rocket pilot, Dave Crane, had decided to stay on the moon to teach the teenagers how to stay out of trouble in high school. 22

Senior Class History In the fall of 1955 the records were opened on 47 freshmen of Loogootee High School, the class of 1959. The most outstanding characters being Mr. Holland—sponsor; Dale Smith—president; Kay Mattingly—vice president; Larry Sargent—boys' treasurer; Bernettia Davis—girls' treasurer. Among other pleasures was a skating party and a trip to Spring Mill. In 1956, 45 of us returned as sophomores of L. H. S. with the spotlight on Mr. Page as our sponsor, we enjoyed a sock-hop, skating party, and a trip to Spring Mill. Yet nine of us lost out in the struggle for finer education. The class officers were: President ....................................................Janice Evans Vice President ...............................................Larry Sargent Secretary-Treasurer...........................................Kay Mattingly Here it is 1957 and 36 of us are juniors. We received our class rings. With the help of Mr. Page and Miss Crooke, we planned a very successful Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. Also, the juniors were in the sports activities with Wilmer Wittmer, Dale Smith, Gordon Phillips, Roy Cole, and Frank Trester making the basketball team. We have enjoyed a sock-hop, and with the help of Mr. Gates, presented a very successful senior play. We are very proud of our yearbook, The Black and Gold, which most all of the seniors along with the sponsor, Mr. Page, helped to publish. We have planned a trip to Washington, D. C. and New York and are looking forward to a banquet and prom. We also have five basketball players graduating, Wilmer Wittmer, Gordon Phillips, Dale Smith, Roy Cole, and Frank Trester. The moments we shall now remember forever are our commencement and baccalaureate. Bemettia Davis now packs spinach for the Popeye Spinach Co. She is known as Mrs. Hercules, because she is so strong. Another classmate who was sure to arrive at any time was Kenny Baker who was still president of the TUAD (Temperance Union for the Abolition of Dissipaters.) Since we believed everyone had arrived we sat down to the banquet table, but there still were two vacant seats. We heard a faint knock at the door, and to our surprise there was Larry Lyle; he had his arms full of autographed copies of his latest book entitled Poems to Propose By . We had decided by then that everyone was there, but I suddenly wondered, Where was Larry Sargent? Someone told me that he had been elected Father of the Year , and would probably be late because he couldn't find a baby sitter for his three sets of triplets and his one set of twins. Just as we were sitting down to eat I heard the stangest ringing noise. It was the alarm clock and I had to get up and try once again to get someone to answer a ques- tion that has been bothering me a long, long time, Why do we have bars on our win- dows, and where did I get this crazy jacket? But I guess I shouldn't feel alone for there going down the hall is Mr. Page, our class sponsor, repeating the same state- ment over and over, That class of '59, it's responsible for my being here.
