AND MACK DON'S CAFE Haiaball The Loogootee Lions had a very successful baseball season the past season under Coach Lester Page. The team completed the season with a 11-1 won-lost record. The Lions averaged nine runs a game, and held the opponent's average to three. Most all the players on the team were seniors playing their last year for the Lions. Their over-all record in four years was thirty-seven wins and eleven losses. Although the team will be lacking in next year there are promising undergrads com- ing up. TOURNEY The Lions were victorious in the Martin-Daviess County Tournament for the second straight year, but were given considerable trouble the last game with an improved St. John's team. The team had to down Shoals and Plainville to get to the finals, while St. John's had to whip Washington Catholic. St. John's was leading the Lions going into the last inning by the score of 6 to 2, but the breaks went our way and we scored 6 runs on 6 hits to win by a margin of 8 to 6. Wilmer Wittmer singled to center with runners on second and third to get the winning hit. Jim Bland started for Loogootee and pitched three excellent innings before running into trouble. Don Waggoner came to his rescue and allowed the Eagles only one hit in the last three and one- half innings. Loogootee had a total of eight runs, eight hits, two walks, and three errors. St. John's had six runs, five hits, and two errors. Wilmer Wittmer received a trophy for hitting the highest percentage of any member of the team, with a .432 batting average. Chester Chattin was runner up with a .429 batting average. POSITIONS Wittmer-----catcher pitcher Chattin-----outfield G.
