We enjoyed several parties during the year with Mr. Holland, our class sponsor. We enjoyed a picnic and o skating party with Mrs. Dooley and Mr. Arvin, our class sponsors. The class officers were: President: Lorry Thompson Vice-President: Joe Wittmer Boys' Sec.: Jim Fox Girls' Sec.: Rochelle Stallings In 1954, thirty-three of us returned as juniors. This year we enjoyed a Junior-Senior Prom and a picnic at Spring Mill. We also were very proud to receive our class rings. Our sponsors were Miss Crooke and Mr. Young. D is for Dillon, a nice girl. When she sees George she's all a whirl. D is for Duncan, the shortest of boys. We wonder if he still plays with toys. F is for Farley, with a fickle mind. Which girl is really his kind. F is for Fesler, a mean little cuss. His hobby is picking a fuss. G is for Garrett, who is full of fun. We know for him, there is only one. G is for Gentry, with the red hair. For the girls he just doesn't care. G is for Gillick, who thinks school is for fun. Bless his old heart, he isn't so dumb. G is for Goodpaster, a boy in the reserves. Sherry says his heart is all hers. H is for Hall, a boy in our class. He thinks Shirley is a cute little lass. H is for Harris, who hopes to win fame. Someday she might change her name. H is for Hedrick, who has her future planned. All she needs now is a wedding band. H is for Hoffmann, Doraetha is the gal. A real sweet girl and real sweet pal. H is for Hoover, whose hair is black. Ann has him and won't give him back. H is for Hottle, one of our clan. A Marine is her favorite man. H is for Hotz, a cute little skunk. With a little help he doesn't flunk. 25 K is for Kiefer, noisy as they come. But we know quite well that he isn't so dumb. K is for Krodel, who knows lots of folks. We're crazy about him, especially his jokes. L is for Leonard, who is very small. Can't seem to keep his mouth shut at all. M is for Mattingly, short, sweet and shy. When “Dick passes, she gives him the eye. M is for Milligan, who is never bored. She loves to ride in that little green Ford. M is for Murphy, the class artist. Of all the class, he's one of the smartest. N is for Neukam, whom we all like. Wonder if she and Les ever fight. N is for Nossett, the basketball star. In his studies, he will go far. P is for Pannell, our airborne boy. Wonder if the Air Force is really his joy. P is for Pate, our little Navy boy. Wonder if Helen is his pride and joy. S is for Stalling, our married girl. When she cleans her house, she is in a whirl. S is for Sutton, Carolyn by name. We wonder if Charles is really her flame. W is for Walton, Dwayne, with o farm career. When it comes to Janet, his heart is sincere. W is for Walton, Janet this time. Wonder if she'll ever make up her mind. W is for Wittmer, the handsomest of them all. Wonder if Marjorie will be his downfall. Z is for Ziegler, the last in line. Seems she thinks a certain boy is just fine. 26 -J e nior La55 Prophecy Date: May 26, 1966 Dear Diary, Today as I was on my way to the district counselor's, I stopped in the city of Loogootee, the town of my high school days. I ran into my friends and former classmates from the L. H. S. class of '56. The first person I met was Sonny Nossett. He is now a minister and is holding a revival at the Methodist Church in Loogootee. He told me that Kenny Hall, one of my old pals, is married and is now the owner of a chain of grocery stores from coast to coast. I told him that Captain Gerry Pate is now in command of the Big Mo and Sergeant Allan Duncan is among the Air Force's best mechanical engineers. After saying good-bye to Reverend Nossett, I ate lunch at the Arrow. At the Arrow, I met Bob Hoover. He told me that he had just struck oil on his farm. He said that Ann Milligan and Faye Harris are registered nurses. Ann is working in the Riley Hospital at Indianapolis and Faye is working in the Deoconess Hospital at Evansville. After leaving the Arrow, I met Roger Krodel, famed comedian, who was talking to Bill Goodpaster, famous ballplayer for the Yankees; Leon Gentry, a famous big game hunter; and lorry Garrett, famed football and basketball coach at Purdue. Larry told me that he is to play against I. U. 's team next Saturday. He said that Joe Witt- mer is the footboll and basketball coach at I. U. and that Professor Eugene Kiefer is the head of Purdue's Science Department. Leon said that he and Jim Leonard, another famous hunter, had just completed a safari in Africa. Jim is married and has four children. Walking a little farther, I met lorry Baker, top movie star; Captain Joe Murphy, top Air Force jet ace; and Major Jerry Fesler of the Army. Jerry is married and has three children. Lorry told me that Dwayne Walton is now playing pro basketball for the Fort Wayne Pis- tons. He also told me that Charles Farley, Vic Gillick, and Ronnie Hotz are the owners of the Big Buck gambling casino in Reno. After leaving Larry and the boys, I met Rochelle Stallings-Walton. She proudly showed me her new house and new car. She introduced me to her two cute children. Rochelle brought me up to date on the whereabouts of some of the girls of our class. Here is what I found. 27 PROPHECY (Cont.) Carolyn Sutton works as a secretary in the General Assembly in Indianapolis. Shirley Mattingly and Barbara Bussinger are still single and are working as airline hostesses. They share a beautiful house at Minnesota. Charlotte Baker works as a secretary to a handsome, young doctor in Bloomington. Doraetho Hoffman is married and runs a beauty shop in her home. Rachel Hedrick, who is married to Richard Vonderhide, lives in a ranch house in the San Fer- nando Valley. Her husband, Rich, struck oil a few months ago and they are now millionaires. Kay Ziegler is a Personal Director at Sorkes-Tarzian Co. at Bloomington. Janet Walton is married and has four children. Her husband is in the Air Force and she and the children live on the base with him. Sue Ftoftel is married and lives in San Francisco. Maxine Neukom is now a top musician, and plays with Phil ipitalm's All Girl Orchestra. Mary Dillon is getting married in June. She is heod of the Home Ec. Department at Purdue. After leaving Rochelle, I hurried to the district counselor's. Then I came home to my wife ond children. During the year we had six students to withdraw and one to enroll. At our first class meeting, we elected the following officers: president—James Bateman, vice-president—Gordon Cole, girls' secretary treasurer—Janice Phillips, and boys' secretary treasurer—Duane Sargeant. During the year we had two class parties, a hoyride and a Christmas party, under the supervision of our sponsor, Mr. Holland. We took a trip to Spring Mill State Park to end the year 1953-54. We entered school in the fall of 1954 with an enrollment of fifty sophomores. During the year we had five students to withdraw and one new student to enroll. We were fortunote to have the following students as officers: president—James Bland, vice-president—Carol Sutton, secretary—Eddie Brothers, and treasurer—Dennis Jones. We donated ten dollars to the school library. Older the supervision of our sponsors, Mrs. Dooley and Mr. Hudson, we'had a skating party and a soc-hop. In May of 1955, we took a trip to Spring Mill State Park to end the school year. We entered school in the foil of 1955 with forty-one juniors enrolled. During the year one junior left us and one new student come. Our sponsors are Miss Crooke and Mr. Young. We have the following students for officers: president—James Bland, vice-president — Gordon Cole, secretary—Chester Chattin, treasurer—Janet Frye. We received our class rings on Jan- uary 23. In the opening game of the tourney, Plainville downed a good Shoals club by a 3 to 2 score. The game featured the best pitching performance seen on the local diamond in quite some time. Monte Denbo, Plainville pitcher, gave up one hit and struck out twenty of the twenty-one batters to face him. In the second game, Montgomery was clipped, 23-3, by the Loogootee Lions. Nossett was on the mound for the winners and gave up 3 runs, 3 hits, no walks, and struck out 1 I batters in the five-inning game. The Lions collected 14 hits off three Montgomery pitchers. Leading hitters for the Lions were: Nossett, Jones, W. Wittmer, Hoffman, and Sargent. Each hit doubles. Jones also hit a triple. W. Wittmer had two singles to go with his double. In the third gome of the tourney, St. John's downed Elnora, 16-0, to move into the final game. It was Larry Reynolds throwing a three-hitter ot the Owls, which the Eagles collected 8 hits and 7 walks off Sparks, the Elnora pitcher. Reynolds had 11 strike-outs in the five- inning game. Extra base hits for the game were gathered by Reynolds and Dooley, each with a triple; and Dave Cropp hit a double. The fourth game found Bland of Loogootee and Denbo of Plainville in another pitcher's duel. This time the Lions gained revenge for their loss suffered earlier in the season by down- ing the Midgets, 3-1. Bland tossed a three-hitter, struck out 11 , and walked two batters; while Denbo gave up 5 hits, struck out 12, and walked 3. The only extra base hits of the game were gotten by J. Osmon and Denbo, each hitting a triple. Leading hitters for Loogoo- tee were Waggoner and Chattin, each getting two hits. Sonny Nossett played an outstanding game ot first base, with several good stops of hard-hit balls. In the final game of the tournament, the Lions defeated the Eagles, 5 to 3, in a well- played game. Reynolds was on the mound again for St. John's and pitched what may have been his best game in giving the Lions only 5 runs, 3 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 7 batters. The only extra base hit he gave up was a double by Joe Wittmer that drove in the two winning runs. 61 Haialtall Nossett started on the mound for the Lions and then gave way to Bland in the fourth inning. Bland gave up 1 hit and struck out 6 batters in the three innings he worked to gain credit for the win. Reynolds led both teams in scoring with 2 doubles and a single in three trips to the plate. The outstanding defensive play of the game occurred in the second inning when Ackerman singled with Reynolds and D. Cropp on base. Gordon Cole made a perfect throw from centerfield to cut down Cropp at the plate. The Lions concluded their season with 8 wins and 1 loss.
