THE CLASS OP »54 Four years ago a new book was opened In the offices of LHS with the enrollment of sixty green but determined freshmen. Perhaps the main actors In this tale of life were Norma Jones, who presided as president over this vast assortment of pupils, Nancy Plunmer, who not- ed as vice-president, Pearl Walton, who was secretary, and Ralph Wil- son, who was treasurer, light of the sixty participants In this story were lost In the shambles of the Initial year of high school to sink Into oblivion as far as the class or 54 was concerned. The first ohap- ter of this series ended In a blaze of festivities with Mr. Holland sponsoring the class In two delightful parties. Chapter two opens. As sophomores, the class of 54 had enough adventures to last us a lifetime. Mrs. Young was a very Important actress In this era of our formal education. Three parties were giv- en with the help of our class officers: Evelyn Mattingly, Ralph Wil- son, Beth Young. Again we lost a few of the characters of our story when ten more members of our class gave up the struggle for a diploma. The most thrilling experiences of our lives came In the third chapter of this book. Our Junior-Senior Reception was a sparkling suc- cess at the French Lick Hotel on May 25th. No story Is complete with- out a hero and heroine and In this third chapter, readers will please note our sponsors, Hiss Crooke and Hr. Young. They really were a tre- mendous help and Influenced us In our search for the ultimate olimax of the story, our diploma. Our class rings received during the year serve to remind us of a most enjoyable chapter In this book. Our class officers were: Delbert Fellers- president, Norman Atohlson- vice- president, Beth Young- secretary, Evelyn Mattingly- treasurer. All good books must come to an end. Oils one just seems to have ended sooner than any other. When this olass receive their diplomas on May 26, 1954, it will bring to an end the most enjoyable part of our lives. Thirty-seven seniors entered LHS at the beginning of the fall term and we hope to have thirty-seven graduates. Our wonderful sponsor, Mr. Jones, and our olass officers: Robert Walton- president, FWarl Walton- vice-president, Evelyn Hattlngly- seoretary, Beth Young- treasurer— have succeeded In making this a most Interesting and memorable year. Chapter four Is coming to an end, the history of the class of 54 to a dose. A summary of the outstand- ing Individuals In the book would lnolude Hr. Halgerty, the beloved superintendent of LHS, Hr. Costello, the prlnolpal, Mr. Jones, our sponsor, and all the other teaohers who have helped the class of 1954 to become graduates of the Loogootee High School. BACCALAUREATE SERVICE The Baccalaureate service was held In the gymnasium on the night of May 23, 1954. COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES Commencement exercises were held In the gymnasium on May 26, 1954.
