MR. ROBERT BULLOCK, Assistant Principal You have just completed 13 years of school work, 13 years of minor irritations, or 13 happy years. Homework, discipline and school regulations are behind you. In years to come you will no doubt remember the past 13 years as some of the happiest ones in your entire life. The commencement exercises terminate your direct connections with your school. These exercises, however, are just what the name ‘commencement’ implies. You are commencing to take your place in adult society. 'I o some, this will mean further education and still another commencement. To others, job-hunting and military service are in the offing. The “world is your oyster” is an old cliche that has been repeated at many commencement exercises. Opening that oyster is frequently a difficult task. Those who succeed do so by perseverance, diligence, and ambition. It is my belief that young people of today are more intelligent, more resourceful, and more apt than the generations that have preceded them. More diversified opportunities exist today than at any time in history. I have faith in our youth and fully expect that they will take full advantage of the existing opportunities of this era. Approach your appointed tasks seriously. Use your abilities to the fullest. We who have preceded you, now depend upon you. May you enjoy God’s speed in all your endeavors. Robert E. Bullock Assistant Principal Dear Graduates of 1969: It has been said that we may be sure of two things—death and taxes; hut you, the class of 1969, face another certainty—change! All areas of human understanding and existence have been and will be characterized by an ever increasing rate of change. You, in thirteen years of formal education, have accumulated knowledge, developed understanding, and have been encouraged to think independently and responsibly. We, your teachers, have confidence that you have learned your lessons well and are prepared to accept change and to adapt to new situations. In this way, society has met its responsibility to each of you. May you, with the insights that you have gained, with courage, integrity, and dignity, now go forth prepared to contribute to the continuance of this, our free society. My congratulations to all of you. May each of you know the satisfaction of success in your future endeavors. Sincerely, John J. Lombardi Assistant Principal MR. JOHiN LOMBARDI, Assistant Principal

Dear Graduates: As you. the Class of 1069, approach the uncertain future, each of you will look hack upon your years at Longwood High School with a mixture of pride and nostalgia. For. during these significant years of exploration and growth in a world often harsh and cruel, often happy and exhilarating, you have found the strength to go forward and upward to meet the challenges that have been faced by students in the past and that students will face in the future. Here at Longwood. you have been guided and directed by your teachers in your initial training toward your ultimate goals. Through their help and by your own initiative and drive, you have reached a major milestone in your lives. The years at Longwood have served as a basis for the further development of your individual personalities. The emotions of happiness, sadness, and pride have all been an integral part of these vital years. My greatest wish at this important juncture of your lives is that the next stage of your journey takes you far and that you may find rest and friends as you pause at the foot of the mountain. Sincerely, John F. Quirk Principal
