The sun had set, leaving a moment of darkness. Awaiting the new day and tomorrow’s entrance Into the world — confident secure courageous For with every sunset there is a sunrise, And for every past there is a future . . . ______-_________ _____________________________________ The 1966 Edition of the Lion’s Den Published by the Senior Class Longwood High School Middle Island, New York Editor-in-chief: Olive Williams Advisor: Charles Anderson Volume III Member Columbia Scholastic Press Association CONTENTS ........ J I Some people say that we should forget the past and live for the future; but the best part of life, and perhaps the greatest, is being able to hold a memory inside and keep it forever. . M 4 5 _ 7 Mr. Sad Walker because he possesses the rare value of character, because he would never hesitate to help us. and because we belong to him. the Senior Class of 1966 will never forget him. He has been a part of us. and will remain a part of us. Jor these reasons, and countless others, we are proud and honored to dedicate KSKSCZJOtfS 66 to Mk. SAKC WACkSK. -A-uH MR. HENRY NEUSS, PRESIDENT MR. JOSEPH CARRABUS, VICE PRESIDENT MR. TYRELL WILSON MR. ELBERT SMITH MR. ARTHUR MINARDI MR. FREDERIC VANDERVOORT MR. ARTHUR WRIGHT MR. DONALD FINGAR MR. CHARLES ROSELIUS Eoard of Education 12 A very special thanks goes to the men on these pages. Although they are sometimes behind the scenes and unnoticed, we have come to realize that they are indispensable. MR. JOHN ANASTASI ASSISTANT DISTRICT PRINCIPAL DR. LOUIS V. NANNINI DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT The broad goals of education can well remain your personal aspirations for a lifetime. These goals include development of a well-trained mind in a strong body, acquisition of skills and habits which serve forever as keys to further learning, and attainment of the discipline of mind and body which permits full utilization of one's talents. There is another goal toward which we hope your thoughts and efforts have been directed at Longwood. Each human being must strive to become a mature person with worthwhile values and sound attitudes. Truth, justice, honesty, beauty, love and regard for human worth are only a few of the values which must be man’s ultimate concern if he is to survive. It is your responsibility to strive for the maturity which evolves from holding these values in high regard. There is a price to be paid for maturity. The price is concern. Each of you has matured in direct proportion to your willingness to extend your thinking into the area of ultimate concern. Perhaps the most accurate measuring rod and simultaneously, the reward for your maturity will be your ability to live effectively with yourself and with others. Somehow, each graduating class is unique and therefore holds a separate spot in the hearts of a school community. Certainly, you have created your niche as you have matured and grown over the past years. Please accept my congratulations and my best wishes for success and a rich life filled with happiness. 15 MR.
