— 7.-- QaA YsczsZe -----_____ . LION’S DEN 1965 Published by the Senior Class of LONGWOOD HIGH SCHOOL MIDDLE ISLAND, NEW YORK advisor: C. B. Anderson editors: D. Fingar S. Fried VOLUME II “Oh Brave New World, that hath such men in it... The Tempejt, Act IV . . . and in this world of the yearbook, such men and women will be found—working, playing, and merely living in their own Brave New Way. Here, these people form their own memorial; in a way, this yearbook IS them: their deeds, their aims, and most of all, their memories. For the purpose of a yearbook is to record these memories, and to bring them back when one looks at it years later. We sincerely hope that you will find the 1965 Lion's Den a special reminder of your past at Longwood, and a source of inspiration in the future. — The Class of 1965 For countless hours devoted to us; for caring for us all, both as students and individuals; for always being ready and eager to help in any way possible; the students of Longwood have grown to love her, and the Seniors are proud to dedicate the 1965 Lion's Den to: Mrs. Francis Lazzaro. 5 The Board of Education MR. Principal a 7 Success is a nebulous concept. It can be an illusion, difficult to define and measure. For some, it is temporary, even fleeting; for others, long delayed. During a lifetime, most individuals will be judged relative to their financial achievements, their professional competence, their social acumen, their marital and parental success, and ultimately, in terms of their impact upon society. Human judgment concerning life involves achievement in all areas, the talents with which the individual started, and the values employed by those rendering the judgment. Perhaps the ultimate test is the ability of each person to live effectively with himself and with other people. As a class you have been tempered by a number of difficult and unusual challenges. Your response has been one of courage, patience, and good humor. As individuals, you have achieved social, scholastic, and athletic success in direct proportion to your talents and your willingness to give of yourselves. Throughout your lives, you will continue to face challenges. Your most satisfying successes will usually demand personal effort, self-sacrifice, and the application of personal traits such as perseverance, courage, patience, integrity, and understanding. These personal traits can only be developed through constant effort. Ultimately, they become a resource, a reserve upon which you can draw in a time of crisis. Then, above all, you will recognize that the price was worth paying. Congratulations to each graduating senior! I wish you a lifetime of success. DR. FOSTER HOFF MR. In the following pages, you will find the inhabitants of the Brave New World. They will dictate the progress of the future. They are the builders, the administrators, the scholars, workers, and creators, and in their hands rests our destiny. They will have to make decisions—great decisions. Let us hope they make them wisely. Here each one of us has an opportunity to take advantage of his own athletic skills, either on a competitive team or a recreational group. And here they are, the competitors, players, coaches, and you Football '64 The 1964 scoreboard, stating that Longwood's Lions did not have a successful season, has omitted an important factor concerning the team. Longwood's football team has always made a fine showing when they step onto the field. The team's big line and quick backfield displayed exceptional ability throughout the season, but seemed unable to make these elements work together for them this year. The success of a young team has been hampered by a lack of experience. Coach La Prairie has bright hopes for the future as the spirit and experience of his team grows. TEAM ROSTER G. Allen J. Two veteran pitchers will be returning, All-League Mike Trusnovec and Richard Lewin. The coach will also be able to depend on such veterans as: catcher Glenn Dydo, first base-man Stan Rhodus, second base-man Dennis Duchnowski, All-League shortstop Bob Morrell, third baseman Dave Redmond and outfielder Phil Reany.
