First off, it must be said that this book took a lot of time and trouble, and hopefully it ' ll be appreciated for what it is. It ' s no easy job to put a yearbook together, as is commonly believed. Secondly, to all those who suffered because of our photography problems, we deeply apologize. However, you weren ' t the only ones to suffer! We put up with complaints ALL YEAR LONG! Our choice of photography companies proved inefficient and it was US who had to reschedule and take the complaints. Do you think we wanted it that way? And the photography throughout the book, except for the work of a few brave loyal souls, was our own. WE became the photographers, developers, and printers. We didn ' t want the job, it just happened! However, all things considered, we enjoyed putting the book together — there were fun moments. We ' d especially like to thank the post office ladies for putting up with all the photography problems, and Mr. Dent and Cheryl for staying loyal to the end. There were many others who contributed, who we ' ll forget to list, so please consider yourself thanked. To all those who have major complaints about the book, save them — join next year ' s staff — and see how much fun you can have perfecting the book. REMEMBER Lessuost.TessSpaceConfl ict 2 i ' j gi j Listens to People, to Their Advice Confusion j jj The white pillars of the Rotunda stand proud and tall marking the entrance to a very important building at Longwood. The interior contains offices, classrooms and, most important, the Administration. It was once sai d that it is impossible to judge anyone else without first walking around in their footsteps. This is especially true with the governing body called the Administration. Students sometimes view this group as devoid of human com- passion. Judgements are passed, stereotypes form and fear is instilled. Yet when viewed individually, each ad- ministrator has a different personality, feelings and philosophy. The things each one brings individually, are in- corporated in their job. Decisions are made constantly by the Administration. Consideration must be given to many factors: The stu- dents, faculty and the tax payers which the president represents by being appointed by the Board of Visitors. With so many groups involved, it is impossible to reach a perfect stand on everything. Mistakes are often made. The answer to correcting these mistakes, COMMUNICATION. This year many more channels of communications were opened. For instance, students learned that changes must be made by going through the Student Boards and not using hasty methods. The Administration learned that student voices are very important in preventing further complications. Pow-wows were utlized in working out harmonious solutions to the most difficult of issues. When all groups involved on Longwood ' s campus care about the welfare of the campus as a whole, the result is invariably a fulfilling college experience. Legislative Board acts as the rule-making branch, while Residence and Judicial Boards deal with the punitive enforcing of the rules. This year rules were reviewed and changed such as; open house hours were extended (to include weekday hours), and many more. These should be fully in effect next year. The administration and the students are able to co-operate when suggestions are voiced through the Boards. Every student is a member of Student Government and it is their responsibility to voice constructive suggestions to the Boards so that action may be taken. Residence Board — Cindy Sanders, Patti K. We have watched the growth and maturation of a hot new item: men in blue and white who have come to Long- wood and brought the vitality and spirit of a Hollywood superstud with them. At first, no one believed in them except themselves. But they brought order to disorder, calmness to catastrophy, and proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that they were ahve and real and dead serious about their game. Congratulations and welcome to the newest and toughest member of the Long- wood sports family — the men ' s soccer team. Soccer You ' ve o . . i 1. Although the loss column outweighed the win column, the spirit never died and the men played each game as if it were their last. Sleep was lost, strains and sprains were tolerated, and pride was bruised, but there was never less than a one hundred-one percent effort. Pride is what it ' s all about, and Longwood is certainly proud of the 1976 Men ' s Soccer Team. m The difference is very clear. Success comes with hard work, dedication, love, and now and then, a few tears. It takes a sharp eye, a good ear, a quick hand, and a Httle prayer. But can success be measured in these terms? We took a group of individuals, dressed them up in blue and white, called them The Long- wood College Field Hockey Team , and asked them to bring honor and glory to Longwood College. They re- turned with smiles on their faces and a trophy for second place in the district. Was this success? We sent them on their way again, this time they came back as the tired, happy, and proud owners of third place in regionals. Wa this success? Think what we asked them to do; think what they did. Yes, Longwood, they were successful. They represented us to the best of their ability, and it is here that success can be measured. i.lh- --am adds A TOUCH OF CLASS to the practice as they il ' } ' . But, every sport has its prob- lems . . . Lacrosses is a relatively new sport at Long- wood and growing every year. How do you tell your parents you failed Math 161 because you were playing polo in an inflated rubber thing in Farmville ' s emergency water supply (the Pool)? All of a sudden we dozed off— 3 years have passed us by. We ' re seniors now — it ' s hit us — it ' s a kind of constant high. Separately we came with totally different lives But we will leave together — ' cuz together you survive. It ' s not the school, or classes, we will surely miss It ' s times with our friends we will sit and reminesce. During our stay at Longwood, tradition took a change There was a time and place for it — to us it seemed so strange As a part of our life, our thoughts, and our ideals To make the past our present just didn ' t seem real. The time dawns soon — It ' s graduation day Soon we will turn our backs and slowly walk away. To each and everyone of you— we ' d like to leave behind A true sense of being — one we couldn ' t find! CHORUS: Longwood, our ole Longwood — we all give thanks to thee You ' ve guided our ambitions— and we learned what not to be There ' s no doubt in my mind — there was no other choice I only wish I ' d taken the time to let you hear my voice!!! i) Mm33 2} Jubal Ackerson Jody S.
