Striving for the Best hen the bell rings at 3:22, students leave schoolg at least most of them do. Much dedication and time is given to the high school by members of activities that we tend to forget about. Several organizations devote afterschool hours to help support and represent Longview High School to make it the best it can be. The Viewettes, Debate, Li- bra.ry Club, the list goes on and on. During football season, the cheerleaders spend about 15 hours a week preparing for the Friday's activities. Practicing cheers and chants, routines and pyramids is just a little part of their job. It also includes getting the pep rallies together, making signs for both the games and the locker banks. Also the most im- portant feat they have to con- quer is the big responsibility to raise school spirit. . The Academic Decathlon and Mock Trial studied hours and hours to represent Longview in the academic arena. And that they did, Academic Decathlon came in 3rd place in district and Mock Trial won regionals and advanced to State. As the deadline aproaches, you will always find the yearbook staff working very dilligently un- til all hours of the night or you could say to all hours of the morning. Typing in the comput- er, making corrections or re- drawing quad paks, that is their yearly schedule. Anybody who stays to put ex- tra hours in sees a side of the school that many donlt see. The quiet, dark and peaceful hallways with no mass confusion, but the simple and true LHS that eve- ryone should experience pene- trates one's soul giving a new ap- preciation for our home away from home. Not a word of complaint has been spoken for the extra time spent by so many. After spending so much time, the fmal outcome becomes a rich reward. That is why anyone who spent the extra time doing their thingn, be it academic or athletic are Striving for the BEST! Mock Trial strutted its stuff at Regionals, advancing to the State competition. Cindi Hansen-Jr. Band is a lot of hard work, but it also is a lot of fun. Aliceson Wallace-Sr. Debate is hard work, but it ends up very rewarding. Darian Scott-Soph. A Quick Breather Jennifer Emmel, Stacye Maledon, and Lacy Fuller get a chance to rest after a strenuous cheer.

rien A wide range of friends can be found here on campus. Friends share football games, cafeteria food, and sunlight at lunch. Friends make everyone's high school years more memorable, es- pecially when facing the many obstacles to be overcome. Our parents probably can recall those special times and special friends during their high school years. Some friends still live in Longview and see one another oc- casionally, like at Christmas and Thanks- giving. Old friends who live in other cities and states still keep in touch by writing letters, sending holiday greetings or just by paying a simple visit. Things haven't changed much. Week- ends and friends went together hand in handg they still do. Weekends didn't seem to come around often enough during the school year, but when they did everyone let loose and had a great time. No - things haven't changed much. We're wishing fopposite page top? Evette Walker, Shenequia Pierce and Rhonda Rowlett share a friendly lunch planning their future.
