Striving for the Best hen the bell rings at 3:22, students leave schoolg at least most of them do. Much dedication and time is given to the high school by members of activities that we tend to forget about. Several organizations devote afterschool hours to help support and represent Longview High School to make it the best it can be. The Viewettes, Debate, Li- bra.ry Club, the list goes on and on. During football season, the cheerleaders spend about 15 hours a week preparing for the Friday's activities. Practicing cheers and chants, routines and pyramids is just a little part of their job. It also includes getting the pep rallies together, making signs for both the games and the locker banks. Also the most im- portant feat they have to con- quer is the big responsibility to raise school spirit. . The Academic Decathlon and Mock Trial studied hours and hours to represent Longview in the academic arena. And that they did, Academic Decathlon came in 3rd place in district and Mock Trial won regionals and advanced to State. As the deadline aproaches, you will always find the yearbook staff working very dilligently un- til all hours of the night or you could say to all hours of the morning. Typing in the comput- er, making corrections or re- drawing quad paks, that is their yearly schedule. Anybody who stays to put ex- tra hours in sees a side of the school that many donlt see. The quiet, dark and peaceful hallways with no mass confusion, but the simple and true LHS that eve- ryone should experience pene- trates one's soul giving a new ap- preciation for our home away from home. Not a word of complaint has been spoken for the extra time spent by so many. After spending so much time, the fmal outcome becomes a rich reward. That is why anyone who spent the extra time doing their thingn, be it academic or athletic are Striving for the BEST!
