Sixteen of the graduates of Longview High School have given their lives that freedom might live. It is to those who have given their last full measure of devotionv that the remaining students of Longview High School promise untiring support to the cause for which these boys have given their lives and earnestly resolve that these shall not have died in vain. 4? ,-ff' Wi. N 9 it ASSISTANT coAcH CQACH ATTAWAY-Center AYCOCK-Back Statistical tabulations of the Longview Lobos' football efforts for the recently completed season reveal that Able Aycock, star quarterback, led the team in both yardage gained and in scoring as he amassed a total of 686 yards from scrimmage in 83 attempts for a very fine average of 7.8 per carry, while losing 37 yards. This does not include his splendid punt returning as, he twice scampered over the goal line on returnsof 79 and 41 yards. Aycock tallied ten times, most on long runs, in addition to throwing five touch- down passes. For his season record he was chosen on the all-district mythical team with stellar guard, Clarence McGaw, by coaches of the District ll-AA circuit. McGaw played brilliantly throughout and proved himself a tower of strength in the Lobo forward wall, many times making tackles far from his particular territory. Co-Captain Arthur Rowland followed Aycock in yardage and scoring as he rang up eight markers, one of 37 yards and averaged 5.4 per try in mounting up 438 yards in 77 attempts, losing 25. Though Rowland played left halfback he performed in great style in calling signals on the offense. Right half Bobby Dill scored five times, four of his scores being on the Lobos' longest pass-scoring play of 34 yards on a pass from Aycock. Dill made 256 yards in 58 tries, losing 21, for an average of 4.6. 5 BROUSSARD-Tackle BROWN-End CALLAHAN-End CALLAHAN-End CHRIETZBERG-Tackle N 'F qgggfgftgltvi 1, COLLIEI-1-Guard GOODING-Guard X 5. ,ig 'Q -M .. gf, A E . , , I ff' t DENSON--Guard DlLL-Back Fullback Ioe Young piled up 382 yards carrying the ball 94 times for an even 4 average. The amazing fact that Young lost only one yard from scrimmage in the Tyler game makes his line-crashing ability stand out. He tallied five times, twice from 19 yards out. Co-Captain Warren Poe, who alternated at right half and end, was used mainly as a blocking back and failed to tally, but did manage to run the ball 20 times for 80 yards, also making a 4 average. Ierry Mullikin, rangy substitute end, scored three times, twice on passes from Aycock and once when he recovered a teamrnate's fumble in the end zone. The Lobos scored 227 points to their opponents 86, l7 of these being conversions. ln this department they improved considerably. In their opener against Nacogdoches they were only able to make one out oi seven good. Guard Marion Gooding place-kicked ll and three others, each, were made by McGaw and Numsen, tackle. A glance at the statistical chart will show that the Lobos fared better than their opponents in nearly every depart- ment ot play. One dark spot on the Lobos' season were the penalties. They were set back 44 times for 330 yards against their opponents' 17 times and 115 yards. Finishing second to Marshall for district honors, the Lobos can well be proud of their season's record, for not once in any game did they give up or stop trying. Their spirit was all that could be expected throughout the season. Center Buddy Attaway and tackles, Rex Chrietzberg, Ken- neth Hibben, George Numsen and Bob Broussard must also be given credit for their splendid play. They, with the guards, took a bruising beating in every game. Coach Pete Shotwell and his assistant, Ioe West, have reason to be elated at the Lobo showing. They have per- formed a great task in moulding a team with one regular from last year. The consensus ot opinion locally at the start of the season was, that the Lobos would drop at least four or five contests, but with the considerable amount of per- sistent effort, the team came out with eight wins and two losses, and in these losses the boys went down fighting every inch of the way. No one can ask for more. 1,4 I V W k x X. 1154 . :L by b it ,J -1-5, ..-X 4- 1 tw 3 lj NUMSEN--Tackle r fi:t1't v t E id t K - 4 if l 4'Dni Y 'T L' if POE-End QV.: 2. ,,. Q 42? I .I. C 1.
