In the first game the Loboes defeated the Leesboro team by the score of 44-6. Then came a close call-the Union Ridge team began to hit the basket from all over the court. But at the end of the game the Lobo five managed to hold a one-point lead. The final score was 32-31. Then came the Union Grove team, who was turned aside easily by the score of 26-10. With this win the Lobo quintet gained a chance for the major trophy. The final game of the tournament was with Gladewater, a team which was in the district race. The final score of this game was 29-14. The following week the Sabine team came to Longview and were defeated by the score of 34-23. Later that week the team went to Mineola for another win. The final score was 29-14. During the Christmas holidays the Mineola team came to the local gym for the return game with the Loboes. They went home with another defeat. The score was Loboes 35, Mineola 10. The Union Ridge team came to the local gym to try to get revenge for the defeat of the Glenwood tournament, but they failed. The final score was 42-17 in favor of Longview. In a return game the Loboes Won 52-27. Next came the district play. The first game the Loboes went to Tyler for a game with the mighty Tyler Lions. At the half time Longview trailed the Tyler team by nine points. With only one minute and forty-seven seconds to play and five points be- hind the Loboes began to put on the steam and Tyler began to foul. After making four free throws, Longview was only one point behind. Then came the most spectacular shot of the season. With only forty-seven seconds to play Chile Freudiger sank a shot from the center of the court. The game ended with a score Longview 32-Tyler 31. At home again the Loboes turned aside the Athens team with little trouble. The .score was 41-17. Then came the only team that stood between the Loboes and an undefeated year, the Kilgore Bulldogs. The Loboes went to Kilgore with only one thing in mind. But they failed to get that: a win over the powerful Kilgore team. The final score was 43-21, in favor of Kilgore. At home again the Lobo five outclassed the Marshall five 40-18. -- --- --5-.-v Eberhardt Carnahan Then the Loboes 'journeyed to Gladewater and returned with another win over the Bears. Later that week the Texarkana team came to Long- view only to be defeated by the score of 50-13. With an open date in the district race the Loboes arranged a game with the famous Van Vandals. They are known all over Texas for their good basketball teams. The Loboes were defeated by the score of 43-20. Then the following week the Tyler team came to the local court only to be defeated again by the Loboes 30-27. The following game was with the Athens team. The Loboes came home from Athens with another win. The following day being Saturday, the Loboes went to the Elysian Fields tournament. In the first game the Loboes were to meet the Avinger team. In the eyes of everyone at the tournament that day, the Loboes didn't have a chance of beating the Avinger team. The Loboes showed the Avinger team a few things about basketball and won the game by the score of 33-27. The next game was with the Hughes Spring team. The Loboes were again the victors. Then came the final game, which told whether the Loboes were to get gold or silver basketballs. The Elysian Fields team led the Loboes the first three quarters and the minds of the boys on the team had already changed to silver. The Loboes kept the hustle for which they are known and came out the winners by the score of 32-30. The boys were presented with gold basketballs and came home the victors of another tournament. The next game was with the mighty Kilgore team. The game was played in the local gym and the Kilgore team proved to be the better of the two teams. The Loboes were defeated by the score of 45-31. The following game was with the Marshall team. The Loboes had an off night and were defeated by the score of 30-29. In the next game with the Glade- water Bears the Loboes defeated the Bears 36-22. For the next game with the Texarkana team, the Loboes made the largest score in the dis- trict this year, 81-19. In this game seven boys played what might be their last game. Those boys were: Chile Freudiger, Joe Adams, Jack Skinner, Bill Carnahan, William Whitehead, Lamar Eberhardt, and Joseph Whet- stone. .
