Another proiect which the club hopes to make an annual event is the presentation of an operetta: The Sunbonnet Girl was given this year with a supporting chorus of a hundred voices selected from the entire Student Body. This year also one pro, gram by the Choral Club was broadcast over station KFBOg another was presented to the patrons of the annual School Fair. The club held ct home room basketball tournament played at the noon hour and awarded a trophy to Miss Cur- ran's Home Room champions: conducted the County and Regional Field and Track meets: sponsored two basketball games and a foot- ball game between the Iuniors and Seniors to raise funds for a projector and a camera which will record athletic and other scholastic eventsg and worked out a new and practical plan of athletic awards. Mineola brought a light line of Yellow Iackets to meet the now experienced Lobo line and shitty green backs on October 2. They proved incapable of their task and bowed to the Lobos 4U-U, Highly touted and well supported, the Polytechnic High School team of Fort Worth came to town on October 9 to stop the mari rush of the Lobos, They found themselves outclassed and bowed out on the short f-nd of the score, l8'U, Still raging, the Lobos Journeyed to meet the Kilgore Bulldogs for their first out-of town game on October l6. Led by R. D. Kranz, the high point man ot the season who collected 211 points, the Lobos were a foe loelittled by no opponent, The loss ot a hard fought game late in the season to the Kilgore Bulldogs on their home court proved to be the downfall ot the Lobos as it crushed their chances for a tie for second place in the county. The boys added two new cups to the Lobo trophy case as a result of the squads placing second in a tournament in East Mountain on February 6 and of the B teams winning second consolation at Hallsville on lanuary 19 and 20. B. D. Kranz was awarded a gold basketball for his selection on the all-tournament team at Mineola on lanuary 19 and 29. Other sguad members received medals for a second place win in Mineola, alter the defeat of three opposing teams. The Longview cagers lost their versatile captain, Alvin lolrnston, at mid-term. Preston Simms served as captain during the latter part of the season. Entering the county meet, they lived up to expectations by Winning a close second to Kilgore by virtue of their live first places and ten other places. Sending tour men to the district meet, the Lobo thinly-clade did not progress as they hoped, but did bring home two tirst places and three other places. Captain Preston Simms continued to carry the green and White as he took two places at the regional meet and became eligible for the state meet at Austin. Skipper and Simms, who have three letters each and were mainstays of the squad, will be lost to next year's team by graduation. , .,,.Q I ,..- fc 'N P X .. The girls' team, led by Francile Thomas, a last year's star, won second place in the singles and doubles ol the county meet on March 20, The boy netters were more successful. Although the singles entry was stopped after a first place win in the county, the speedy doubles drove their way into a second place berth at the district meet on April 9. The entire tennis team will be lost by graduation, but the junior meet introduced many up and coming youngsters who can represent Longview on the courts next year. These include: Betty Newsom, Evelyn Bivins, Helen Hall, Herbert Skidmore, Barry Grupel, and Iames Hurst.
