Guys Try Their Hands at Sewing The hum of sewing machines and the smell of baking usually fills the 300 hall. Why? Because some of the future homemakers of America are at work in our school. This year Home Economics wasn't just a girls' class. Five boys were enrolled, learning cooking, sewing, flower arranging, child care, and handcrafts. Home Ec is required for seventh grade girls, and the Home Ec l course included cooking, sewing, and child care. Home Ec ll students made jelly, dried and arranged flowers, and did more work on sewing, cooking, and child care. Students in third year Home Ec made pickles, cheese, and clothing. They also learned more about Italian cooking by visiting lVlarcantonio's Restaurant. Making Something from Nothing The pounding of hammers, the buzz of drills, and the clatter of wrenches, saws, and T-squares fill the shop rooms in the 400 hall. Seventh graders worked on woodburning and plastic molding, making plastic signs and key chains. Students in Shop ll made and sold Ram games to buy new equipment for the department. Shop students also continued the annual model contest. Career Woods class members made puzzles and games and the IQ tester. Evaluating nearly car Stafford i8l. ZOISHOP a shop project. and Danny Smith, hammer tofinish 483 carefully adjusts the drill before using it.
