Math is more than just numbers, as was proved by our dedicated math teachers. There were several new courses available, including geometry and a computer class. Even basic algebra had a lot of variety, thanks to Mr. Ahnstedt. His course included a study of aerodynamics using paper airplanes, working on string sculptures, a double washer puzzle problemn, and creative enrichment posters. But Mr. Ahnstedt said that the most successful thing he had his classes do was algebraic story problems. Ms. Kelley taught 8th and 9th grade math, and the applied geometry class. In geometry, the students worked on several large- scaleprojects, such as plans for school buildings and private homes. Introduction to Computers was taught by Ms. Morgan. Brand new this year, the class had 19 members. They worked with computers, calculators, and slide rules, and went to the FAA in January. Julie l-largett l7l practices her addition, to Mrs. Kelley's dismay. Another skill learned in Mr. Ahnstedt's math classes---l'Creative enrichment posters. IVIATHI11
