LONGMEADOW HIGH SCHOOL LONGMEADOW, MASSACHUSETTS PROFILE 1972 - 1973 LOCATION: Residential town adjacent to Springfield, Massachusetts, and Enfield, Connecticut; population - 16,000. High School located at 95 Grassy Gutter Road, between Bliss Road and Williams Street, 01106. TYPE: Public high school geared to college preparation; present enrollment, grades 9-12, 1365. Member of New Eng- land Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, Association of College Admission Counselors, and College En- trance Examination Board. PERCENTAGE CONTINUING: Approximately 85% of our graduates continue their education beyond high school; 80-85% attend four-year colleges, universities, ana degree-granting junior colleges. Since our first graduating class in 1957, these figures have remained quite constant. ADVANCED PLACEMENT AND HONORS SECTIONS: Students are placed in Advanced Placement and Honors sections by recommendations of teacher committees and results of standardized tests. These courses are offered in the junior and senior years to ambitious and able students. These courses carry the number — II; e.g., English 411, and are indicated on transcripts by the jk. Advanced Placement Courses are offered in English 411, U. S. History 311, Advanced Chemistry 41 I, Advanced Biology 41 I, Math 411, and French 411. Honors Courses are offered in French 311 H, Chilton French 411 H, Chilton French 511 H, Math 311 and 412, Latin 311, English 311, and Physics 311. FACULTY: Average class size for the year 1972 - 1973 is 18.2. Eighty-two percent of the faculty has earned the master ' s degree or has done study beyond the master ' s level in a total of 70 colleges and universities; three have earn- ed doctorates. CLASS OF 1973 DISTRIBUTION OF S.A.T. TEST SCORES: APRIL 1972 176 of the 317 students in the Class of 1973 took the Scholastic Aptitude Test. Their scores are distributed as follows: IOWA TESTS OF EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT: 279 members of the class took the I.T.E.D. in November of 1971. The L.H.S. average is in the 99%ile nationally. On this test 5 students ranked at the 99%ile; 25 students ranked at the 95%-98%ile; 26 students ranked at the 90%ile to 94%ile; 58 students ranked at the 70%ile to 89%ile. Four students were Semifinalists, and twenty-three students were Letters of Commendation winners. MEDIAN CLASS 10: 1 16 on the California Test of Mental Maturity, Long Form Advanced Edition, administered in February of the junior year. CLASS RANK: Final marks in all regular prepared courses for which the student has received credit are used in de- termining rank. All members of the class are included in the rank list. In determining rank, the following values are given for marks: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=l, E=0. Junior and senior Advanced Placement and Honors courses are raised I; e.g., a B Honors equals 4. Pass Fail courses and subjects dropped are disregarded. The class median at the end of the junior year was 2.447.
