Picturesque, romantic, Ireland, Well beloved, much to admire land, 'Neath your sunny skies of blue, I could live my whole life through. Tender thoughts of dear old Erin, O'er the World your sons are bearin' Ireland, dear, my heart's for you May your troubles soon be few. And this verse, a bit from one of the many choruses typifies The Lass of Limerick Town, the high school oper- etta, presented Friday evening, March IZ, by the glee clubs. The story begins outside the Kings Head Inn, in Limerick, Ireland, on a holiday. Following the opening choruses the love affair of Molly and Mike is presented. Soon, in the course of events, it is found that Betty, a penniless but beautiful girl, is much beloved by all the people, while her cousin Rose, is as rich as she is beautiful. Rose is courted by all, none of whom she likes, plagued by the fear that they are after her money. left to her by a rich uncle, who had lived in America. Pomeroy Worthington, a fortune hun- ter, comes to Limerick to marry Rose, bound to her by a death bed promise of her father to the father of Pom still living. So to avoid an affair with Pom, Rose and Betty change places. Pom, although he soon realizes the girls have changed places, falls hopelessly in love with Betty and declares his love. All sorts of unpleasantries are caused by the arrival of Sir Charles and Lady Worthington, parents of Pom, The tangled net is finally strafghtened out by E.. Hicks, a farmer friend of Rose's uncle, who proves that all the money belongs to Betty rather than Rose, because the uncle left his money to the elder niece. Since Betty was born in Ireland and Rose in England, Betty is the elder, on account of the difference in time on the different continents. Zelda Bahr was Betty, the Lass of Limerick Town. She had a sweet Jer- scnality and voice, and at all times irvas The Lass gracious, graceful and pleasant. Virginia O'Connor played Rose, the rich and suspicious cousin of Betty. She gave the best developed female voice to the operetta, supplemented by excellent enunciation. In playing the fortune hunting Captain Pomeroy Wortliington, Byrus Troxell, was handicapped by a terriffic cold, but his voice was nevertheless pleasant. Morine Nyquist, bass, in the part of judge Hooley, elderly guardian of Betty and Rose gave to the operetta its best developed, most pleasing and naturally true voice. Helen Ewald played the part of the ambitious mother of Justin D'Flynn, an attorney in love with Rose. Pat, the niggardly landlord of King's Head Inn. was played by Ciould Norton. Mike, Pat's ostler and one of the fun- niest characters, was played by Arne Mattson: Molly, a waitress with whom Mike is in love, was played by Ena Bowen. E. Hicks, the rube character, a Yankee farmer, was played by Ciuy Pierce. The aristocratic Sir Charles and Lady Worthington were played by Albert Hartman and Opal Hemmett. Jack Pierce and Allan Smith were: Smith, a coachman, and Partington, a butler respectively. The operetta, which was one of the best ever presented in Kearney high, was especially outstanding because of the choruses, which were exceptionally well trained. They brought into clear relief the excellence of the direction of Miss Helen Cherny.
