Our sophomore year was one of split sessions, getting home at live o'clock. Reconstruction was in lull swingg stairways coming up, plaster falling down, new exits, no desks, dripping paint, broken windows. But with all this we managed to squeeze in a wonderful Soph reception, basketball games and some really ter- rific dances. XVe proudly took top honors at the Royal Sweetheart Dance, with all the schools in Queens competing. Our contes- tants emerged victorious with the Titles Queen ol Teens and Best Band of Queens. L. I. NVe are sitting at the top, the highest step on the ladder, the Senior Class of '58. lt has been a long hard clin1b lor us. Now we can Hnally sit back a moment and look proudly at what we have accomplished. The years at Long Island City Higl1 have been lour years ol' progress and success lor both the school and each student. In the course ol our study, L. I, C. has developed a new structure, a new lace, and as a result it has helped us to develop a new spirit of perseverance and responsibility toward our work and our school. Let's take a last look at the memories we are leaving behind. A Monday, for us September lfi, 19541, was our Iirst day as frightened freshmen in the new school. Cautiously we made our way through the halls in lear of bumping into one of those gigantic Seniors, whose prestige we hoped to obtain as the years progressed. Remember our lirst lreshmen council and the excitement of our very own recep- tion, the big Halloween Dance and the thrill ol' seeing our first Basketball game against Bryant High? We were host to a student lrom Denmark in the Tribune's Annual Youth Forum: what excitement! Things really began to move, and our dream of high school began to untold lor us. 1 J 'Q e X

We were quite proud of our sleek new school with the desks, paint, P. A. sys- tem, and her new modern air. Vlfe showed it with a really wonderful junior year. The highlight was a wonderful basketball season, leaving our Plazamen just one game removed from emerging victorious and dribbling its way into Madison Square Garden. There was March 15th, when pale faced, black-clad seniors walked through the school mourning the death olf the immortal Julius Caesar. We once again had our G. O. assemblies and we saw some really big shows. Three big bands just brought down the house in a jumping jazz concert that was long to be remembered. Remember our exclusive Stork Club Dance with a guest appearance from Patience and Prudence!?l It brought fun filled talk for weeks later. Our first Miss G. O., Carol Norton, was chosen at the Moonlight Dance and we whirled our way right into our Senior year. 14
