Both our tragedies nd ouf triumphs seem sma ' ' and insignificant viewed over a distance of tweive yea ' s Yet it was, perhaps our hardest year for young as wc were we had to adapt ourselves to discipline to group 1 i y « ng „ to f on = for othe ' s and free ourselves, to a degree from our dependance on our parents and home Our course through primary and grammar srhool was the unusual one. We worked we p layed we were good we we ' °e naughty we studied or we didn- t we we e in rhapel p ' og ' -aras ope ' etta but never falte ing time advanced us grade by grade and year by year until before we scarcely realized it we were knocking at the portals of High Srho ' cla ■ We were welcomed into this h ' ghf realm of learning t y our principal Mr Jenkins, and Miss Lois Whitfield, who was cur home ' ' oom teacher Since this was a war year we did not have competitive athletics so extra cirricula a t i V i t i e s w e r e 1 i m i t e d The last three years proved to have a brighter forecast, however and very little took place in the county in which our students did not have an active part -r fact our competitive a« tivities became as much a pa ' t of our dai I V ' cV- ' -vf as did our regular studies Mrs. Kelly in our Sophomore yea ' ruTed us to a gi eat extent of our giggles. As frefkies disappea« ' ed and di gnity deve ' oped Mrs Lawing who had helped us through the seventh grade , again took us under he ' w-ng to guide us safely through the reraainde ' ' of High School, She sympathized suffp ' ed, yes, and laughed with us acting as a guiding light. There ha -e been successes,, but thei ' e have also been failures to be su«-e . But rhe real history of the class can not be summarily written, for it is the •eco ' d of the lives and struggles of each student as he goes on with never faltpf-ing courage to face the life tha - the future and fate have in store for him That record of class of, 47 shalJ reach its fruitition through the ac- compli s hm e r t s of its members. The greatest chapter of this his to. y is yet to be written, the chapter of life where, when partings are over and student days are gone forever,, each will have his individual task to perform. An d i s i t boastful to say that the present speaks a future that is bright with prospect of great lives of achievment in service? But what eve - may happen, every member of the class will forever be loyal to Long Creek and the class of 47 GLASS PROPHECY As I gaze into my crysfal ball if takes me to ray classmates of 47 I can see a fat-m, ye? it has a small white house with a picket fence a ' -ound the yard There ' s someone feeding the chickens why its Betty Sue. and with her is her small son. As I walk down the road f ' -ora her house. I see Billy Jane McClure sitting on the porch of he- home She seems very happy Seeing Billy Jane made me think of Corinne, so I asked about her, only to find that she ' s working with her husoand in their studio I went on down the Beattys Ford Road There was a party or something important going on at the Greasy Spoon which was owned and operated by Donald Elliott r went in side to d.iscover that there was an athletic association meeting in session Chairman of the meeting was Johnny Fesperman, who is now Physical Ed Director at NC State, the others were Merton Vance. Big League oasebail pitcher and Helen Hatley who was coaching basketball at Woman- s College University of N C I sat down at the counter to o -der a coke and who should take my o ' -der out Betty Mcintosh, After finishing the coke ]. left went out side and caught a bus to Charlotte. When getting on the bus I saw the driver was an old classmate of mine Evelyn Nance I took my seat by a young lady not realizing until 1 noticed more closely she was Isaoelle Caldwell, now Vice president of Bell Telephone I walked up main street after reaching Charlotte There was a news boy on the corner, so I decided to catch up on the latest news items Well guess who is now the manager of the Observer Dalton Parke ' - Turning the pages of the paper I noticed several interesting articles. Dress Designer for Iveys who was sponsoring a fashion show that evening What s this. Jean Hamilton Met ropolitian Opera Singer will perform here in three weeks accompaning at the piano will be Beth Elliott, teacher of music, at Phifer Junior ColJege I put ray paper aside and decided to do some shopping I went to Belk ' s one of the largest depa ' -tment stores in the city I had hardly entered when I met Oliver Saxon now the Manager of the store When getting my package wrapped I thought the wrappe ' s face was familar 1 was right, for Baroara Thomas was chief wrapper of Belk s I noticed some one was watching me he seemed to be the store detective only he moved so slowly he could never catch a shop lifter It had to to Bill Blyt ' he for there ' s no other person who could be that I left Belk s and visited other Dusiness sections of the city. As I walked in and out f various offices I saw many of my former classmates In the office of Lance ' s I found Madeline Black, now president and serving as her p«-ivate secretary, Jean CoHii s Another reliaole class mate Margaret Hambright , was serving as Madeline s effiorient Bookeeper I took a cao from Lance ' s to go to a night cIud I was delayed in ar ' -iving at my des tin?tion however by a crash that temporarily tied up traffic A docto - and his assistant Louise Henderson, while answering an emergency call, had collided with another car Under the efficient supervision of Sheriff Todd traffic was soon untangled, and I was again on my wa y As we ode on toward the club I noticed the large electric sign of a model agency own ed by Odessa Evan.-; now proprietor of This Ulfta Smart establishment When seated I picked up a program on my taole Well what do you know Boyce iNfixon s Jazz Band was playing there that n = ght and as a special featur e the jitterbug Champ ion =Dickey Hart was to give a per- fo raanc e Johnnie Fesperman CLASS f .IFTS Merton and I havo .ointed throu multitudious ways and by ways to find for you, dear class mates, these ti jasu ed gifts, prize tliem, for they represent much tliought.
