I hope that you will long remember and treasure the time you spent here. As you leave high school and enter the world of work or further education, I am certain that the variety of educational, social, athletic, and vocational experiences provided by the school will have provided an excellent base for the many new' challenges you will face. I would encourage you to bring the same enthusiasm and sense of purpose that you exhibited in high school to all your future endeavors. Our team finished its season with an impressive victory over Red Bank. The game was won in the last quarter with a field goal kicked by Skippy Edwards. Frank Raviele contributed much to our team. John Penta, our quarterback, did an outstanding job with his passing, playing both ways, and was named to the N.Y. Daily News’ Central Jersey First Team. Another standout was Glenn Covin, who scored many of our team’s touchdowns. Richie Colbert and Bob Bisti also helped the team. TEAM: (I. to r.) 1st Row: C. Young, T. McCain, S. Staten. B. Gaskill, J. Days at Long Branch High School have' ended but new beginnings are opening to the graduates. For some, job opportunities await; for others, the hope of higher education. For everyone, graduation means added responsibilities. Previously, the “student” had only academic problems. The “graduate” must deal with a problem of vital importance: planning his future. Whether entering a vocational field or pursuing his education, the graduates must apply the basic skills learned here wisely, to insure a successful future. The Class of ’69 closes tnis decade as one of LBHS’s most successful classes. Members of the class have achieved many individual honors; but the outstanding success of all activities has brought honor to the class as a whole. With sincere hopes that ;he years at LBHS will be fondly remembered , the TRUMPET extends wishes of continued success to the Class of 1969. lon| Mraiuti (Crumpet QUESTION: What will you miss most about L.B.H.S. after you graduate? Speak Out This past year there have been a number of disturbances on high school and college campuses around the country. Administrators in many schools have decided thal it’s a good idea to start talking with the students and listening to what they have to say. At Long Branch High School, Mr. Dugan has been meeting with the members of the Student Council executive board and the executive boards of the three classes on the first Monday of every month. The meetings are informal discussions of school problems. Three Leaders Present Monday, June 2, 3:10 p.m. Ten minutes after the discussion was supposed to start, only three of the fifteen or so invited student leaders were present. Two others dropped in before the meeting was over at 4:30. For the first half hour discussion centered on the financial woes of the Yearbook, TRUMPET, and the three classes. A proposal was made for reform in the method of electing class officers. It took a little while for everybody to loosen up. By 3:4S people were talking about the contents of courses taught at Long Branch. History courses should be made more relevant (I didn't want to use that word), showing the historical roots of today’s problems, possibly by teaching history in reverse chronological order. More time should be spent on discussing current issues. Student Council is considering setting up small discussion workshops, where groups of 10-15 students could get together and discuss things which couldn’t be brought up within the larger structure of regular Council. The Administration is contemplating fori.fcng mini-courses which students could attend during their study halls. These non-credit seminars would be moderated by faculty members. Tony Donohoe Pat Koeiinoffer Student Court The possibility of a Student Court, proposed by several candidates during the Student Council elections, met with the disapproval of Mr. Dugan, who felt that students could not have access to all the information involved in taking disciplinary action. Inevitably, conversation turned to the Dress Code. The student leaders favored further liberalization of the Code but felt that some restrictions should remain. Groups of this nature have come under frequent fire. In many cases the students at similar meetings arc not truly representative of the student body. But the students invited to this meeting were elected either by the entire student body or by the members of their respective classes. Dale Turner Another criticism is that the Administration just wants to be able to say that they've talked to the students, then do whatever they wanted to do; that the Administration wants to use the students to legitimatize their actions. But here the students could bring up any problem they wanted to talk about and discuss. And Mr. Dugan listened. PAGE U JUNE 13.1969 Have You Been Dreaming ? Your mother flying over the house? Or even your cat playing the violin!!? Utterly ridiculous. Out of the realm of possibility. Not in dreams. Any such thing is common in dreams. Dreams are like a one act production with you as the director, producer and star. They include props, settings, action and people. Just as theatre goers see messages in plays, there is a message in each one of your dreams. Whereas the language is English in theatres, the language in your dreams is that of symbols. Many of the things you see and hear in your dreams symbolize something within you; some part of your inner self which you don’t know or don’t see plainly. It is the variety of symbolism that makes each one of your dreams different. To symbolize other feelings you might see your cat playing the violin. Or you might even see your mother fly. After winning their first five ball games the varsity football team lost its next three contests and finished the season with a record of 6-3. Coach Schroeck expects to have a good season next year with three returning offensive backs and a set of experienced linebackers to lead the defense. Although the booters finished in 5 th place in their division, they will have five returning lettermen including Ron Desantis who led the team in scoring with 10 goals. The cross countyr team, 10-4. loses two stars in Bob Bazley and Tony Dono-hoe. However, Glen Turner and Dennis Morgan hope to take up the slack left by these two seniors. As Mr. Kahle took over the position of wrestling coach he had problems with lack of experience. Only four seniors were on the squad this year. There will be five juniors and six sophomores returning who saw varsity action this past winter. It was supposed to be a reouilding year for the basketball team but Coach Walsack built a team that won 19 games and the Shore Conference’s Class A Division. He distinguished himself with a 4th place finish in the Shore Conference race and a 6th place in the state sectionals and finals. That spring he ended a long season with a third place finish in the state meet.
