'PO Just as Janus, fictitious porter of the heavens and guardian deity of the gates, has the power to open and close the doors of the universe, books can open the gates not only to the world of the imaginary, but also to all tangible subiects. The information secured by Minerva to earn her title as Goddess of Wis- dom can be earned by all students if we unlock the doors and utilize all the wonderful facilities offered tous. The image in our mind is focused quite clearly now: Mercury, mes- senger of the gods, clad in winged cap and shoes is seen dashing across the dazzling Milky Way, ex- ecuting his primary function of re- lating the happenings and future events of the day to his fellow gods and goddesses. ln reality, the announcement squad, body of capable and efficient stu- dents, similarly aid us in planning our day. Reading and Speech Mrs. Sherman Speech Senior Speech What confusion would be present if we were unable to express our visions in spoken words, as we were speed- ing along in space and gazing at constellations. LBHS students can thank their lucky stars that they are given the opportunity to be aided in the development of proper speech, and to be taught poise and expression. Under the able direction of Mrs. Sherman, the Senior Speech class has gained a wealth of knowledge which will indeed be appreciated in their future college and business en- deavors. Senior Speech fi! Such reading courses as Speed Reading, Reading Workshop, and Reme-dial Reading strive to arouse a thriving interest in the students with respect to literature, and with the assistance of Mrs. Robb and Mrs. Schatz, the students derive a better understanding ofthe words of others.
