P - . De r Graduates: l After four successful years of concentrated study, you a cross the threshold and enter a world that is highly specialized and-..-4 complex. Today, lCBMs, astronauts, space platforms, mfsiles to the moon, are no longer fantasies in science fiction, but realities of our age. We must cope with all their implications as well as contribute to our society so that all may benefit. In this space age, my concern is not so much with the quest of lie on Mars and Venus. Rather, it is for us, once there, to bring with us ' '- e-' Tf .',.' I the good life we have been seeking here on earth for centuries. For 'Z this task you will need more than robots, computers and cyclotrons. Mr. Jerome P. Murtha, L.L.D. .i,b', President g, I trust that we have set you on the path to goodness, and that you will.+ A enlarge it to a throughway, and then to a spaceway. Centuries have proven the rightness of scientific hypotheses and made them facts. Perhaps your generation will prove Aristotle's concept of universal B d ,If goodness, conceived over two thousand years ago, has fact al as well O as ideal reality as you journey through life, and possibly eventually Ed through Space' .,-,..-....-,..,,. S ? ' Dr. Joseph A. Kuhn uperintendent of Schools Dear Graduates: ln a sense, lite is composed of a little of the past, the present, and the future. As you look back over your ac- complishments, I am sure that you will recognize the im- portance of your elementary and iunior school education, without which the high school could not have been suc- cessful in preparing you forthe years to come. When you receive your diploma, you will be entering a new world - college or industry. Whatever the case may be, you will encounter new experiences, new friends, and new responsibilities. I know that by virtue of your diligence, talent, and ambition you will do well. I know too that you will cope successfully, not only with the enormous problems here on earth, but with the vast complicated problems of our space age. We must demonstrate beyond doubt that science and the humanities can co-exist in our culture. Through science and technology, space travel will soon be a reality, and once again the world will become smaller. Certainly we must learn to live together as good neighbors. As you demonstrate to the world that the principles of our great democratic way of life really are efifective, you aid in achieving the high hopes of all mankind for peace and the dignity of human life.
