ETNYRE EXEC TIVE OFFICER USS LO GBEACH CCG -91. Commander Etnyre was born in Spring- field, Ohio, and graduated from the Univer- sity of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. He completed the Offi- cer Candidate School COCSJ at Newport, Rhode Island and was commissioned an En- sign on July 1971. Significant early assignments included duty Onboard the USS HAMMERBERG CDE 1015, in Naples, Italy, serving as damage control assistant, on the USS ENTERPRISE QCVN 653 as repair officer, and the Depart- ment Head Course at the Surface Warfare Officer School, Newport, Rhode Island. Following graduation in April 1980, Cdr. Etnyre reported to the USS MISSISSIPPI QCGN 403 serving as engineer officer. In October 1983 he reported as a member of the Nuclear Propulsion Examining Board Atlantic on the staff of the Commander-in- Chief, U.S. Atlantic Fleet. In February 1986, Cdr. Etnyre reported to the USS LONG BEACH QCGN-95 as Executive Officer. - Cdr. Etnyre is married to the former In- grid Elizabeth Grass of Warren, Michigan. COMMANDER Rear Admiral Taylor was born in New Bed- ford, Massachusetts. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in June 1960. He joined USS ABBOT QDD-6291 in Newport, Rhode Is- land and served as Main Propulsion assistant, Damage Control Assistant and Engineer Offi- cer until March 1963. Duty aboard ABBOT in- cluded operations in the Artic and Mediterra- nean, with CENTO Forces in the Indian Ocean and participation in the Cuban missile crisis and quarantine operations. Subsequently, he served in the Surface Nuclear Power Program at the DIG Project in West Milton, New York. In 1966, he was assigned as Engineer Officer. USS HOEL QDDG-135 out of San Diego and par- ticipated in Northern SAR and Gunline opera- tions in Southeast Asia. ' In 1967 he was selected as a Navy Olmsted Scholar. This tour included studies at the De- fense Language Institute, Institute of Politi- cal Studies at the University of Grenoble in France and the American University in Wash- ington, D.C. He was awarded a French Di- plome d' Etat with distinction and a Master of Arts in International Studies. Rear Admiral Taylor then assumed duties as Main Propulsion Assistant, USS ENTER- PRISE QCVN 65p , an assignment which includ- ed nuclear refueling and subsequent deploy- ment to Southeast Asia and to the Indian Ocean. In 1972 he reported to USS HALSEY QCG-23p Precommissioning Unit in San Diego and participated in HALSEY's commissioning in Bath, Maine and deployment to the Pacific. Duty on HALSEY included implementation of the first shipwide Combat Systems organiza- tion. He then served in Washington, D.C. as Head, Surface Nuclear Power Branch and Head, Naval Reactors Branch in the Bureau of Naval Personnel. He assumed command of USS SEMMES QDDG-183 in 1978 and deployed to the Medi- terranean. He assumed command of the USS MISSISSIPPI QCGN-40, in 1980. MISSIS- SIPPI's operations included two Mediterra- nean deployments, and the ship was awarded CRUDESGR the Battle Efficiency E , the Meritorious Unit Citation, the Old Crow Award, the Sixth Fleet Top Hand Award and the Atlantic Fleet Battenberg Trophy. Subsequently, he served as Commanding Officer, Surface Warfare Of- ficers School Command in Newport, Rhode Is- land from whence he was assigned to duty as Commander, Cruiser-Destroyer Group ONE in San Diego. His awards include the Legion of Merit with Gold Star, the Meritorious Service Medal and Navy Commendation Medal. He is autho- rized to wear the Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, the Vietnam Service Medal and other recognition ribbons. Rear Admiral Taylor is married to the former Mary Jane Stevens of Newport News, Virginia and they have two sons, Raynor and Andrew. 9
