CAPT H. F. LECKY, JR. Chaplain Chaplain LECKY was born in Newark, Ohio on November 3, 1931. He first entered the Navy in 1949 and served until 1951 as a Hospital Corpsman. In 1953 he graduated from Baldwin-Wallace with a Bachelor of Arts degree and was commissioned as an Ensign CUSNRJ in October. Upon commissioning, Chaplain LECKY commenced Divinity studies at Wittenberg University, Miami of Ohio and Duke University. He was ordained in the Ohio Synod, Lutheran Church in.America in May, 1956. After pastoring two congregations in Ohio, Chaplain LECKY entered active service in November 1961 as a Lieutenant. He was assigned to Naval Training Center, Great Lakes. Since then he has seen duty at Paris Island, Vietnam, Bremerhaven, West Germany, USS CONSTELLATION, New River, N.C., and Newport, R.I. among others. Chaplain LECKY advanced in rank rapidly. In 1964 he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander, Commander in July, 1969 and Captain in july, 1976. Among his decorations are the Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal 431, Combat V , Army Commendation, Purple Heart, Cross of Gallantry, Good Conduct and National Defense. He was also named ROA Chaplain of the Year for 1966. The Chaplain is married to the former janet Lee Storms of Shaker Heights, Ohio and they have four children, Richard, Carol, Harold and jeffrey.
