CAPT I-I. C. SCHRADER, JR. Commanding Officer Captain SCHRADER was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin on. 4 August 1932. Upon graduation from the Naval Academy in 1955 he was assigned to the USS BLUE IDD-7441, following a three year tour in BLUE, he was assigned to the Weapons Department of the USS .OBSERVATION ISLAND IAG-1541, and while serving as Launcher Operations Officer participated in the first at-sea launching of a Polaris missile. In 1960 Captain SCHRADER commenced a three year tour at the Naval Post-Graduate School, where he earneda Masters Degree in Physics. In August 1963, following a tour of instruction at the Naval Divers School, Captain SCHRADER assumed command of the USS TA WASA IATF-922. In April 1966, following Nuclear Power Training and Submarine School, Captain SCHRADER reported aboard USS SCAMP ISSN-5882 where he earned his dolphins. InfDecember 1967, he r commenced a tour as Executive Officer, USS THOMAS A. EDISON KSSBN-6101. Captain SCHRADER assumed command of the Blue Crew of USS ALEXANDER HAMILTON on 17 January 1970 and conducted six Polaris deterrent patrols. The Providence Plantations Council Award, signifying the most outstanding 'PolarisfPoseidon submarine in the Atlantic Fleet was awarded to HAMILTON for fiscal year 1972. Following detachment from HAMILTON in November 1972, Captain SCHRADER assumed command of USS ANDREW JACKSON CSSBN-6192 for a brief period, and served on the staffs of Commander Submarine Flotilla Six and Commander Submarine Refit and Training Group, La Maddalena. Prior to reporting to USS LONG BEA CH KCGN-92 , .Captain SCHRADER served for twenty-six months as Commanding Officer of the USS HOWARD W. GILMORE IAS-161, The SIXTH FLEET nuclear -attack tender homeported in La Maddalena, Sardinia. Captain SCHRADER is married to the former Carol Joan GOSSMAN of Towson, Maryland. They and their daughter, Mary Clare, presently reside in Coronado, California.

CDR R. H. AILES Executive Officer Born in San Francisco, California, Commander AILES attended various public schools in Arlington, Virginia, Long Beach, California, Washington, D.C.g and Norfolk, Virginia. Entering the United States Naval Academy in June, 1953, he was graduated and commissioned an Ensign on 7 June 1957. Commander AILES' first sea assignment was in USS WILLARD KEITH IDD-7751 where he served as CIC Officer during deployments to the North Atlantic, Mediterranean and Indian Ocean. Subsequent sea assignments include duty as Operations Officer of the USS CONYNGHAM KDDG-171 and Commanding Officer of the USS HAMMERBURG CDE-10155 in the U.S. Atlantic Fleet and Executive Officer of the USS SOMERS KDDG-342 and Commanding Officer of the USS BROOKE KFFG-1 2 in the U.S. Pacific Fleet. In addition, Commander AILES also served as Operations Officer on the staff of Destroyer-Division 222. ....,....:....L..gL....4...-a..1....4....,......4..:...a,- If , f' V -.-:.- if - --: 1 fv'Y'?5'?'l Shore duty assignments include postgraduate education at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California where Commander AILES received a Masters Degree in Operations Analysis, Nuclear Engineering Training at Bainbridge, Maryland, and West Milton, New York, duty as the Commanding Officer and Director of the Officer Department of the U.S. Naval Nuclear Power School at Mare Island, California and duty in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Systems Analysis where he served as the Acting Director of the Naval Forces Division. Commander AILES assumed duties as Executive Officer of the USS LONG BEACH in April 1976. He is the son of Rear Admiral and Mrs. John W. AILES III of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is married to the former Clara J. Swift of Arlington, Virginia. They have two children.
