Coach Foreman The 1983-84 Basketball season was one of the most memorable seasons in Lone Tree history. The Lions racked up a 2nd consecutive SEI Conference Championship to go along with Sectional, District, and Substate titles which brought a State Tournament berth for the 1st time in 51 years. The most exciting moments this season came in the District and Substate Championship games. In the Dis- trict final, the Lions knocked off favored Keokuk, Cardinal Stritch, 70-62, with probably their best perfor- mance of the season. This win left one more opponent in Lone Tree’s path to the “Big House,” the Calamus Comets. The Lions rallied behind a strong defense and disciplined offense to post a 58-51 victory. Coach Hofmeister felt that the keys to the success of this team were unselfish play, dedication, and goal setting. “As young as we were, we had to be more fundamentally sound than most teams to make up for lack of experience.” However, we could have been the most talented team in the nation and not have had the success or enjoyment we had without unselfish, dedicated, and goal oriented players. The 1984 track season began with a lot of question marks and ended as one of the most successful in school history. The youthful Lions came on to win the Falcon Relays, the Lion Invitational, and the District meet at Anamosa. The district title was the first since 1963, and enabled 10 individuals and nine events to go to the state meet. At the state meet the Lions performed well and gained a lot of experience for next year’s state meet. Phil- ip Forbes placed 6th in the 100 meter Dash and was the Class 1-A Long Jump State Champion. Congratulations on a job well done tracksters! « f ! (L to R) State Champion Philip Forbes. Bry- an Less. Tim Lorack STATE QUALIFIERS Record breaking 4x800 (L to R) 1st row Brad Musser.
