Lions Cradle 0-8 Season Third Row: Coach Griffin, Russ Chabal, Will Eden, Ron Flake, Randy Hole, Ted Schlote. Second Row: Roy Warson, Scott Lutz, Dana Troyer, Tim Lorack, Todd Lorack. First Row: Brad Shingledecker, Randy Slaughter, Doug Zaruba, Ken Ford. The young inexperienced matmen squad couldn't muster a victory in their 0-8 dual record but did show promise for a better season next year A unique situation occurred in the Wrestling program's coaching staff. Rick Griffin took over the head coaching responsibilities even though he is not employed as a teacher in the school. He commuted to LT from Iowa City for practice and meets. The matmen were led by senior captains Tom Lemley and Doug Zaruba. A second-place finish by Doug at the Highland Sectional qualified him for the District tournament at Lisbon. Tom's injuries forced him to sit out the first half of the season but fought back to establish a respectable record. A controversial call at the Sectional Tournament ended Tom's hopes of advancing to Districts. The varsity squad was made up of 12 members This lack of depth meant a forfeit of three weights each match. One underclassman highlight was Todd Lorack's second place finish in the conference meet which was held at Louisa-Muscatine. According to Coach Griffin, determination and hard work are the key to a successful '82-'83 season. 24 Doug spars for position. Tom keeps his man down on the mat.
