Almost every- where the kids go they are able to buy T-shirts that show people where they’ve been. T-shirts reveal alot of your personality, too. They can say how fond you are of a sport or how strongly you feel about a friend. At Lone Tree, whatever you have to say, say it “up front” on your T-shirt. At 119 lbs., Dave enter- ed the sectional tournament with a 15-7 record and finished second, which advanced him to the District meet where he also placed second and moved on to state. At Des Moines, he wrestled against Merle Triggs of Mount Ayr and lost a tough match, 1-0 in overtime. A sophomore, Dave ended with a good season of 19-9. Dave l ord, 119 lbs. Dave Ford Goes to State! U Our Foreign Visitor from Ecuador Ana Lucia Matute attended school here in Lone Tree from January 22 to April 21. Ana. age 15, was an exchange student from Bahia de Caraquez, Ecuador. She stayed with the family of Chris Brenneman and experienced many new things, including snow. Ana found Iowa had a lot of snow, something which she had never before seen. While in Lone Tree, Ana took English, Spanish IV, chorus. Home Ec., art and PE. Ana has two brothers and two sisters, one sister is also an exchange student in Michigan. In Ecuador, she attends a Catho- lic girls’ school and is studying to become a secretary. She is interested in literature, geography, music and languages. Ana’s visit was the first time Lone Tree has had a foreign exchange student. We at Lone Tree enjoyed Ana, and hope Ana enjoyed her visit at Lone Tree. is Parked cars usually only provided one lane traffic even on main street. One thing that most of us will re- member about this school year, is the long winter with lots and lots of snow. Most felt this is the most snow and the coldest winter we had experienced since 1936. This brought about many days when school was either let out early or called off completely. Along with the post- ponement of many school activities; such as basketball games, wrestling meets and the Snow Dance; some of which were never made up. But still, most of the students enjoyed an extra day at home, and spent most of their time either snowmobiling, sledding, sleeping, or just catching up on study- ing. But as the days went on, the no school-snow days had to be made up sometime. Snow in the parking lot was piled so high anyone could make a stuff shot. 16 Unfortunately the snow wasn’t piled deep enough to hide the stop sign that nobody wants to stop for. Snow, Snow, . . . More Snow! Many times cars were found cuddled up under a thick blanket of snow. «d. 17 18 Homecoming 1978! Top Left: Doug Eden gives a speech to fire up the team for the game. The team had its low-points and its high-points, especially whipping Highland on Homecoming with a tremendous score of 30-18. Coach Rios comment on the team and season was some- thing like this, “The team played well but not consistently. They moved the ball well and had positive leadership from the three seniors: Kevin Nelson, Doug Eden, and Don Colton. He also said he’s looking for a successful year, next year.” Receiving a high individual award, quarterback Jeff Musser was voted first-team all-conference. A special congratulation to Dave Ford who placed 2nd in the sectional and districts tournament and advanced to the state tournament in Des Moines where he lost a tough overtime decision 1-0 to his opponent from Mount Ayr.
