Left Mr. Grulke directs the Elementary band. Right-A pep band hard at work? Bottom-The sound of music! The Lone Tree instrumental music department has been well on the road to improvement this year. Mr. Grulke push- ed just a little harder and pointed out that band is a class and requires study as well as any other class. He has opened the eyes of many students and takes pride in them. The school year always starts with football and marching band. Some of those formations are tough, but they make for an interesting half-time show! As the year progresses, so does the band. Pep band starts with the beginning of basketball, and concert band starts right along with it! Some students are kept busy by both, but they always seem to manage. Amajority of the pep band members are Jr.-High, and they can really carry a tune! The concert band is mainly Sr. High, with a few exceptions, and usually performs at four or five concerts. Toward the end of the year, contest arrives. Some will polish up a solo, while others work on small groups. Of course, the band will prepare for Large Group Contest and travel to the competition. All-in-all, band is a challenge to your inner soul and mind, in which many participate. 30
