Right -Stacy Phares and Gail Westfall attempting to draw fruit. Since there are a lot of creative people, we thought we would give you a brief introduction to what goes on in the Art Department. Art I is an exploratory art class, where there is a lot going on with all students working in the areas of watercolor, ce- ramics, sculpture, weaving, and many more things. In Art II, the student is given more freedom to choose what media he she will use and how it will be used. Some of the areas students work in are silkscreen, acrylic painting, tie- dying and contour drawing. In Art III and IV, students work independently with chosen media for each nine weeks. Some of the areas you can work in are painting, pottery, jewlry making, macrame. Ms. Snook explained that the goal of art in education is to help students relate to and understand themselves and their environment. She feels her goal as the art teacher is to help the student produce a tangible “work of art” as proof of that per- son’s uniqueness. 20
